Update 5 - Dynamic Blood, Smoother Weapon Handling & More

We’ve just released a new update for The Living Remain, bringing a major visual upgrade to combat alongside more reliable weapon handling, quality of life improvements, and bug fixes.

Dynamic Blood and Damage

Dynamic blood is something we began developing some time ago but never had the opportunity to fully realize, until now.

Previously, the undead displayed blood in a limited number of predefined locations when shot. We’ve completely replaced that system with dynamic blood and damage effects. Wounds now appear where your shots actually land, making every encounter feel more responsive, impactful, and unpredictable.

More Reliable Weapon Handling

We’ve refined how weapons are grabbed and transferred between hands. Accidental grabs with your opposite hand while attempting to reload have been eliminated, resulting in smoother and more dependable weapon handling during intense encounters.

Improved Over the Shoulder Holsters

The grab area for over the shoulder weapons has been improved, and we’ve changed how holstered weapons attach to the player. Drawing and returning weapons should now feel significantly more consistent and reliable.

Quality of Life Improvements

We’ve added several helpful features to make the experience more intuitive without taking away from exploration:

  • Ammo location reminders now appear when needed.

  • Additional puzzle hints become available if you spend too much time trying to find a solution.

  • Several smaller interactions have been refined throughout the game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with shotgun shells that could interfere with rapid reloading.

  • Fixed certain environmental audio effects not activating during gameplay.

  • Fixed certain environmental particle effects not appearing when intended.

Thank you to everyone who continues to play, share feedback, and support The Living Remain. We’re a two person team, and your feedback continues to help us refine the experience and make the game better with every update.

Step back into the fight and experience the new damage system for yourself!
