Laser T-Rex and New Beta Wave
Hello there! Long time no see. Double Kick Heroes is still making progress and we’re finishing the last pieces of Chapter 2. There’s also been work around server storage, analytics, editor mode, difficulties, new levels… Let’s get in some of those changes.
Before that, we’ll be sending out new beta keys so make sure you’re registered on:

Finishing Chapter 2 of Story Mode
The story mode is important for us, we want you to live a great adventure. To sum up, when we’re building a new chapter we need :
- New crazy zombies with their style and animations
- Fun, arcade crazy Boss
- Full narration intertwined with gameplay, biomes & punchy dialogues
- Complete level design for the 5 difficulties.
The only thing left for Chapter 2 is the boss, we’re striking the final touches on it and will soon push it
New ROCK & VIOLENCE Difficulty
On the return trip for Gamescom, Elmobo told us that he wanted a difficulty between metal & extreme. Something that is really fun, hard, but not too harsh. Something that doesn’t always involve the Snare, which can get really overwhelming and frustrating. Adding a new difficulty is not a lot of work, but we have to be really careful about balance. A new difficulty implies a lot of responsibility, gameplay wise!
We also added something for the low-skilled people who want a high-level of FUN! This was a feature asked from Gyhyom who has a hard time playing hardcore games (such as Dark Souls and Furi) but still want to enjoy their lore and fantastic backgrounds.
Stats, Leaderboards, Servers
Blackmagic made some work around servers. Why DKH use servers? Here are a few use cases:
- Analytics, look at how people, why, for how long? It’ll help us improve the gameplay experience. Totally anonymous!
- Custom editor levels made by players will be hosted on servers. We need something reliable and strong to take all use cases into account.
- Leaderboards to compete with your cool friend who roasted you on Guitar Hero. Time for a revenge, bruh!
No publishers? Whatever, let’s go indie!
We’ve spent a fair amount of time speaking with publishers those last months. We’ve seen them during Pax South (January), Gamescom (August), Gamesco (October). It took us a lot of time to make and refine all those business contacts. Alas, the game is a bit niche and it’s scary for those companies. WHATEVER. Let’s go full indie and ROCK your PC!
