New Features Released: Reference Images & Alignment Tools

New Feature: Reference Images

The following files will be loaded when mesh maker starts from the same folder as the executable:

  • left.png
  • right.png
  • top.png
  • bottom.png
  • front.png
  • back.png

These should be displayed automatically when Mesh Maker VR starts, but they can be enabled/disabled from the settings panel.

Reference images can be scaled using pinch scaling (grab the image with both controllers to scale).

Alternatively, for more accuracy (human eyes face forward, not side to side), reference images can be scaled by clicking the trigger on an image to place an anchor, then grabbing the image with a single controller and dragging. Click the trigger on the anchor to remove the anchor.

Reference images can be positioned by dragging.

We recommend the background of the reference image PNGs be transparent. White is the worst background color as it makes reference tools and snaps invisible.

Thanks to Kung Fury for requesting Reference Images on January 4th 2017.

New Feature: Alignment Tools

Alignment Tools are accessible from the new Tools Panel. They're like the 3d crosshair for snaps, but they're stationary and come in X, Y, Z, and 3d varieties. Useful for aligning reference images and positioning vertices.

Alignment Tools can be deleted using the alignment tool delete tool in the Tools Panel.

Alignment Tools can be hidden/shown from the settings panel.

New Feature: direct visual feedback (color change) for vertices selected when in face creation mode

This was requested by ms on January 5th 2017.

New Feature: settings and alignment tool positions/scales are now persisted to disk as JSON

This happens automatically as changes are made.

New Feature: Reset move/rotate button

The Tools Panel now has a Reset button that can be used to zero the position and rotation of the work object at any time. Useful to avoid restarting Mesh Maker if things get weird.
