As the long holiday weekend draws to a close, I'd just like to share some recent work!
Nightmares
Nightmares is a new narrative single-player experience that revisits locations from the campaign and provides short non-canon side-stories within them that do not relate to the main campaign mode. In Nightmares, your scenario will dictate the character you play as. Their abilities may also be slightly remixed to help improve the experience. Enemies and other events will be different.
Nightmares is intended to be a slower-paced classic survival horror experience. Features like pausing in any UI are always enforced and enabled. In addition, the endless hordes are disabled and a greater focus on set-piece enemies and encounters. The addition of the AI partner system (see below) and other neat tricks will allow it to be a more strategically paced experience.
The plan is to release Nightmares as episodic content over time. The first episode's release doesn't have a release date and won't be in the incoming content drop, but we'll keep you posted as they come along.
AI Partner
One of the largest requests coming out of the community has been for supporting AI teammates. Our upcoming content drop & patch (which is hopefully dropping in the next week or two) will include initial, limited support.
In single-player Campaign and Onslaught, you will now be able to toggle an option to provide an AI teammate or not. In the initial release, this teammate will follow your player and attack incoming threats.
You won't be able to manage their inventory, so there are a few small changes made to support the experience. AI teammates will have unlimited ammo, but they will deal significantly less damage than other players. They also will need to reload like anyone else.
To help keep them alive, they will have buffed health compared to the average player. They will also slowly heal over time. They can help create a great diversion, but at the end of the day, you're responsible for supporting them and keeping them alive. If they die during the scenario, they're out for good. You can always choose to play solo and experience the classic Outbreak experience as it's always been! The choice is yours!
When will more content drop?
We're working on designing and building the new character and enemies. The hope is to release the next free content drop in the next week or two. Nightmares is targeted a bit further off and we'll have more information as the game continues. The content drop will also have a patch with a few big fixes like Quies's inventory glitching text with melee weapons and improved gamepad consistency in the UI system.
Thanks for supporting Outbreak!
