Beta Update - Feb 27, 2018

Note: For those looking to try out the beta, you can do so by right clicking the game in Steam, going to "Properties", clicking the "Betas" tab, and choosing the "beta" option from the dropdown.

Hey all! This is just a quick update to build on the previous beta update and fix a few flaws with the previous adjustments made to velocity smoothing.

The primary goal with this beta update was to get the auto-calibrator and the punch force feeling in a better spot. Some major changes have been made to the auto-calibrator to make it more consistent, but also not as punishing as previous iterations if you occasionally throw a hit much stronger than usual. For the purposes of testing this specific update, please turn on the auto-calibrator and give it a try for a match or two.

I've also added a wider range of movement to the "mass transfer" system, and now allow it to grant you a bonus, in addition to a penalty in order to give a more noticeable effect to really putting your weight behind a punch without the auto-calibrator adjusting you to a lower multiplier as a result.

This build should work much better for bouts with longer rounds than the previous one. The scoring has also been adjusted to benefit the player just a small bit more. The velocity smoothing has also been tweaked a little bit, so punch velocity should read out a little more accurately on the heavy bag.

Let me know your thoughts in the feedback thread here or by emailing me at [email protected].

I've moved the previous beta update to the rollback branch so you can revert if you find something game breaking.

Thanks!

NOTICE: If you're seeing some extreme jitter or choppiness and/or extreme initial game load time, it might be due to a recent SteamVR update. Valve has a fix on the beta branch of SteamVR, so opting into that should fix the issue.

Update Notes:

  • Updated auto-calibrator algorithm to prevent it from creeping your multiplier lower and lower as you continue to squeeze out more and more powerful hits over the course of a fight. The auto-calibrator should bounce back better than the previous version, but should still feel far more consistent than the old version used to.
  • Punch velocity smoothing has been polished some more to read hooks better than the previous beta update was.
  • Adjusted the range of motion used for the "mass transfer" system and allowed it to provide a bonus to damage instead of just a penalty.
  • Lowered threshold for judges to count a hit as a scoring hit.
  • Increasing an opponents chin no longer makes it harder for you to win by score.
