I'm working on a huge update, and wanted to post a quick preview this weekend.
Expected additions that will drop with update #3:
- Player body and arms! (model and hitboxes)
- Blocking with arms and shoulder
- Physical "push back" on opponents when you land a hit against their body or their block
Along with the above changes, I'm also toying with changing hit damage to speed/strength instead of travel distance. This will likely have maximum and minimum damage values so that players with little strength can still play and players with lots of strength don't trivially KO every opponent.
Whats in store for the future?
Thank you all for your support. I'm now taking a day off each week from my day job to dedicate to development. Without all of your feedback and support, the game would be in a much different place right now. I started out with the intent to make a less realistic, goofier, arcade-style game, but we're slowly drifting back to a more simulation style game. Despite that, I'm very happy with the feel of the gameplay and where it's headed, and I'm confident I can keep things fun and light-hearted with unique (and a few flat-out wacky) opponents, even while making the game mechanics a closer mimic to real boxing.
I've gotten requests for many other game modes - training workouts, campaign mode, randomly generated opponents that match your skill level, and the big daddy - multiplayer. I'm not promising nor ruling out any of these, but as a single developer, I can only focus my time on so much at once. That said, after the next update drops, I'm going to begin looking into multiplayer. The biggest hurdles I felt I was facing for multiplayer were handling different sized player spaces and body hitboxes for players. After the last two updates, I feel I'm in a good spot to get decent solutions in place for these problems. This will be a fairly large undertaking, and it will likely be rolled out in phases while other features, opponents, or general game polish are being worked on.
Thanks again for your interest and support, and thanks for taking this journey with me!
