Beta Update - September 14

Note: For those looking to try out the beta, you can do so by right clicking the game in Steam, going to "Properties", clicking the "Betas" tab, and choosing the "beta" option from the dropdown.

Hello, everyone! I've got a small update going out to the beta branch with the intent of addressing a few tracking related issues that have been reported to me recently. In an attempt to address Vive tracking drifting outward during fast arcing punches, I've now set a limit on how far away your gloves will travel away from your body. The goal is that these will mostly counter-act the drift, but won't interfere with your typical reach. If you would like to restrict the drifting distance even further, I've added a new option to the setting menu called "Wrapped Wrist Mode" that simulates more how your fists would behave if your wrists were tightly wrapped and couldn't flex. As of September 15, this must be manually turned on through the "Drift Protection" setting.

As a quick test, I've also disabled the AI's ability to correct the trajectory of their punch after they started to swing. Previously, they could correct up until they started to put forward motion into their punch. Many players have expressed that it feels like the AI has homing punches that can't be slipped, so I'm trialing the other extreme where they don't make corrections on the fly at all to see if it helps in that regard.

Please let me know how things feel in the feedback thread here or by emailing me at [email protected].

Thanks!

September 15:
Renamed "Wrapped Wrist Mode" to "Drift Protection" and set it to off by default. If you are having issues with your fists drifting outward during fast hooks, turn this setting to "On". You'll need to make sure your floor height is correct for it to work properly.

Original Update Notes:

  • Disabled AI's ability to correct their swing trajectory after they're started to punch.
  • Added a max distance away from you your gloves will follow your controllers to help with Vive tracking drifting on fast punches.
  • Added a "Wrapped Wrist Mode" option to the Settings menu. This will adjust the max tracking distance value to better reflect the capabilities of your hands if your wrists were tightly wrapped and inflexible. Use this if tracking drift is still too extreme.
  • You can now customize your gear and glove appearance by editing the two image files in the "game_Data/StreamingAssets" directory inside TotF's install location and then renaming them to "custom_gear.png" and "custom_gloves.png".
  • Made small adjustment to velocity calculation to further combat arm whip swings.
  • "Below the Belt" shots will now play a sound and cause a reaction from the opponent instead of having no result, but they will not meaningfully contribute to damage or scoring.
  • Made some minor changes to the calculation of lead hand mass credit.
  • Added a slider for judge scoring strictness (strength needed for hits to count as scoring) to the bout customization menu.
  • Increased visual reaction to body shots.
