Beta Update - March 31

Note: For those looking to try out the beta, you can do so by right clicking the game in Steam, going to "Properties", clicking the "Betas" tab, and choosing the "beta" option from the dropdown.

I'm pushing out another beta update now. Normally with a small update like this that mostly just improves on the previous beta update, I'd quietly release it as a hotfix without its own news post, but there a few substantial differences here that I think deserve their own discussion.

The arm whip detection has been fundamentally tweaked to not nerf your force if you get a false positive. Whip punches will now hopefully result in a sane force reading that might still be a little high, but shouldn't cause problems with the auto-calibrator. If you had switched to the rollback branch because of the new arm whip detection, this update should feel a lot better.

The arm whip detection system currently only functions while the auto-calibrator is turned on.

Other changes include scaling the player hit sound and effect with the incoming damage received and more tweaks to the AI distance keeping.

Check out the patch notes below and let me know your thoughts in the feedback thread here or by emailing me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Update Notes:

  • Arm whip detection system tweaks.
  • Made the hit flash and sound effects when the player takes a hit scale better with the force of the hit.
  • The distance the AI stands at has been pretty heavily moved back. I feel like the distance feels great now, but there may be some issues with their hooks not being able to make it around your guard reliably.
  • Changed the judge's scoring to make them more decisive about picking a round winner rather than scoring a draw.
  • Adjusted the front blocking hand positions for several boxers.
  • Punch force result UI should report jabs less often when you're not actually jabbing.
  • When a transition moves the player or AI to the middle of the ring, they should no longer take an extremely high velocity hit from teleporting into a fist.
  • Cleaned up some stray lines on the new UI icons.
  • Varied up the AI's punch timing to be less reliable to bait out.
  • Fixed a texture issue with Duke's skin.
  • Fixed an issue where the player could get knocked out on the exact frame a round ended, which would make the match flow timings get out of sync.
