This update is available on the beta branch for QuiVr. It can be accessed by going to your steam library, right clicking QuiVr, and selecting Properties -> Betas -> and selecting the 'beta -' branch. You can revert this by going to the same place and selecting 'NONE - Opt out of all beta programs'.
Unity 5.5 Upgrade
This update brings QuiVr to Unity 5.5 up from 5.4. This is a large scale change that affects many aspects of the game engine, which need to be thoroughly tested (hence the beta) but should lead to cooler effects, more stability, and better performance.
I've also changed the rendering mode to Single-Pass Stereo, which should take some load off the GPU, it does however stop some effects from working correctly. The only one that we were using was a distortion shader for various effects (Enemy teleporting effect) so I've disabled distortion to prevent side effects.
I'd like to get some feedback and bug reports on both general issues (due to a changing Unity codebase) and performance due to the VR changes in 5.5.
Additional Changes
- Optimized map rendering (slight)
- Optimized enemy rendering (more significant)
- Multiplayer scores now save even for a loss (based on last success)
