This update introduces new visual effects and settings in addition to partially bridging the gap to procedural maps.
Visual Effects
A new slider has been added to the Video Settings called "Effect Quality"
It is a range between 0-3 with 0 being the lowest quality, and 3 being extremely high quality with distortion and dynamic lighting on individual effects. The default is set to "1" and should look much better than the previous default.
Additionally, the HDR Glow setting is now On by default as the new Unity versions allow HDR to work with Forward Rendering. It is therefore much more efficient to use (though performance cost is not negligible).
New Effects
All of the Ability Effects have been updated for a more appealing and rewarding player experience.
Additionally, there have been additions to other effects within the game, including Elites, Falling Snow, and Environment Fog
The rock snow cover has also been updated for much better detail up close, but still limiting visual artifacts at a distance.
More Bows
A number of new bows have been added to the data files including a few from the community! Thanks to Pengu and Fliedihi for helping to work out the details of implementing user-created models!
While these bows are not yet available in game, they are now in the game files and can be rewarded to players without requiring a game update.
Performance Improvements
Thanks to a concerted effort by community members, this update has the largest set of performance improvements since launch. While it is somewhat offset by the new visual effects, you can expect to see significant improvements for both the CPU and GPU performance.
The list of changes that affect performance is extremely long and not most are UI and Networking adjustments, so I'll omit them from the notes.
Art Progress
Finally, we have started progress on the next set of Art assets (working first on new rock formations for more varied enemy paths along the canyon wall) and should have some new and interesting environment structures soon!
Note: This patch also contains all the changes made in Patch 0.38.0
Edit: Another update has been pushed out under the same version number (though different networking version) due to a potential performance destroying bug with networked barrels in the first zone
