Update - Greener Pastures

At the end of last week, we pushed a new update to the Arc of Icarus playtest. This update is titled "Greener Pastures", both because the grass in-game is actually more saturated now, but also because the visuals have overall gotten a facelift! All interactable entities in the game now have a gradient shader and a thin outline, which gives better contrast against the world, while still respecting the low-res pixel art style.

The early game has also received some major changes, the most significant being:

  • Foraging camps now have a limited range, visualized when you select them. It is a circle of radius 5 (in grid cells). This means that placing the camps require more spatial planning than before.

  • Hemp plants are added to the map, and can be foraged in the same manner as berries. Furthermore, it can be weaved into cloth, which is an required resource for tent-type buildings, among other things.

  • Reproduction is no longer automatic, but instead a deliberate action on the tent building, that is performed by two humans, in a format that fits in with other types of production in the game.

For the next update, we are doing a major overhaul of the world generation! Stay tuned!
