3.82
This is quite a big update and hopefully should make things much easier for everyone in the future. You may also notice I've jumped a few points in the versioning. This is to jump over the Media foundation/Directshow versions which are now supported property and more permanently in this version. The biggest addition to this update it that I've fully integrated the Media foundation and VLC plugins into the player. This means that if you want you no longer need to have the LAV codecs installed. This also has the addition of being able to use the VLCVideoLan plugin to play back youtube videos. On top of that there is now a new Directshow plugin installed. This plugin should be quicker and will also mean better support in the future. I've also noticed that with this plugin update gpu decoding seems to now work. To do this open up LAV video, in the decoding options change it to NVIDIA CUVID (I've only tested it with Nvidia video cards). There are several other updates as well. I'll list them as best I can below.
To try the different video paths goto the new cog option on the menu bottom left, go to video paths tab and select which ever video path you want to use. The player will restart and that video path will then be used.
Video plugin path opened to include Directshow, Media foundation and VLCVideoLan.
commandline options added to set the videoplugin
-videoplugin AVpro
-videoplugin MPMP
-videoplugin UMP
AVpro is the Driectshow plugin
MPMP is the Media foundation plugin
UMP is the VLCVideoLan plugin
Text in main menu replace to utilise the Unity UI system. This hopefully should now mean better support for non English characters. I would like to test this properly so anyone out there with examples please let me know.
Network operation of the player. You can now operate the player using network commands. This is usefully if you're demonstrating VR video at a conference.
Fisheye has been rotated 90 degrees by default. The tilt will be the same so still set to 0 but the Fisheye is rotated directly in front of you. This was requested and looking at the majority of content out there seems the more common option. To get back to before simply tilt the dome -90 degrees.
Single pass rendering is enabled. hopefully this will help improve performance.
Settings menu added to the Vive controller underside.
The Mouse is out of focus has been reduced in size and moved to below the menu. This should at least make it less annoying.
Final thoughts.
I've been working on this update for a while and it's been a real arse integrating the new video path plugins. I hope that by doing so though that it will allow for better development in the future. Now that this has been achieved I'll be working back into the player adding new feature and trying to fix bugs.
This is also a beta update as I wish to do a default build update in the next couple of days and thought I'd put it out there for the die hard fans to give it a go and let me know of any problems that I need to fix :)
If you want to try the beta and don't know how it's simple. Right click on whirligig in Steam, go to properties, go to the beta tab and select the latest beta. Either whirligig_early_access_v.3.82_beta for this build or whirligig_early_access_latest_beta to always have the latest.
I hope you like the progress of Whirligig. I'll keep working on it as long as you keep enjoying using it. If you really like it leave a nice review :)
Until the next update. Over and out.
