I've rolled back the default build as I've had response from people that it breaks the video playback. This build is still available in betas though and I do suggest you try it. To try the betas right click on Whirligig in Steam, go to properties and then goto the betas tab and choose the latest beta.
Another update. I've worked out the problem and it's related to the new feature to have backgrounds in front of the video. This only really works with png's with alphas so I'm going to limit it to them before releasing this as a default version. Hopefully then it will come tomorrow. Thanks for the info you've given so I can address this straight away. If you want to try this again then you can use the latest beta and then go to the backgrounds and set the in front to off and that should fix it.

Hello everyone.
So I've committed a new build and this is an update to the beta builds and also the default build.
This update includes quite a few bug fixes that are too many to mention. Hopefully I haven’t added more. Also some improvements and new features.
Relating the the bug fixes these are mostly to do with the video render paths. I'm now using two video plugins rather than 3 which is much easier but I still have differences in the way they both work. The most stable render path and most recommended when combined with the LAV codecs is Directshow. The other two render paths work as they should but sometimes have some quirks, noticeably they sometimes need playing to see the video and when you jump to a different part of the video while paused the screen doesn't always update. Generally though they work well still. Other than that I've basically gone through trying to find and fix all the other little quirks that are there. They are always going to be things I miss and as I add features I'll most likely add new ones but hopefully this version will feel one of the most stable so far. If you do have problems though you can easily revert back to the previous versions through the beta tab and also please let me know through the discussion board for I can fix it quickly.
Below is a list of some of the updates I can remember.
- Reprogrammed the position reset for the Vive which hopefully should fix issues with still seeing the grid when in seating mode.
- Custom format now works properly with the VLC VideoLan video path.
- Backgrounds now has the option to lock the background to the tilt and have the background in front of the video which is useful for with pngs with Alphas.
- Added png with alphas support for backgrounds.
- Added custom forward and backward skipping (mappable to Gamepad and changeable in options)
- Added time to Vive controls.
- Added a new very simple menu.
- I've also added a new room. This is a Cinema. Please be aware that this is just the first version of this room as it's in development. It will be updated again very quickly but as I put it in for testing I thought I'd leave it in for you to have a look at. I hope to be improving the rooms and adding more, far more frequently so if you have suggestions of improving them please let me know :)
So that's it for this update. I'll continue to update and work on new features and hopefully Whirligig will keep on improving. I'm also working on new tools including a producer that will allow you to make your own menus and a whole lot more, so keep an eye out for that in the future.
So go and enjoy and hopefully like the new improvements. If you have any problems please let me know and if you like the player please leave some good reviews as they are really appreciated and help people make an informed decision on whether to fork out the money for what I hope has become a very reasonable VR video player :)
Thanks for trying Whirligig and I look forward to giving you more and more improvements in the future.
