Transmission from RustForge 🎙️
After pushing the limits of speed in our last update, we noticed some systems were struggling to keep the pace. RustForge was burning too hot for some hardware to handle, leading to missed pixels and "Ghost Clicks". Today's emergency patch is all about synchronization, ensuring that every input sent is an input registered. I've dialed in the timing to ensure that speed never comes at the cost of stability. This ensures everyone can use the app regardless of hardware limitations.
Patch Highlights
Speed Recalibration: Balanced the timing logic to prevent the app from "outrunning" the game engine.
Ghost Click Fix: Added a hover delay to palette selections to ensure the first color is always registered.
Adaptive Palette Fix: Corrected a race condition where colors would default to black during high-speed painting.
Hardware Scaling: Optimized the engine to perform better on mid-range and older CPUs.
User Settings Has Moved: The user settings file UserCFG.ini has been moved to AppData\\Local\\RustForge. This prevents any future RustForge updates from overwriting your already existing UserCFG.ini.
Balancing & Logic
Input Synchronization
Recalibrated Speed Presets: Adjusted the internal timing to ensure better mouse-to-engine communication.
Why this matters: In our pursuit of maximum performance, the timing values became too taxing for most systems. This recalibration ensures that the mouse doesn't move faster than the game's ability to process the paint stroke, eliminating the "speckling" effect reported by the community.
Hardware Optimization
Optimized Precision Sleep Engine: Updated our high-resolution timing calls to be more forgiving on systems with lower thread priority.
This will also provide a stable, consistent line-drawing experience regardless of your background CPU overhead.
Fixes & Quality of Life
The "Ghost Click" Fix
Added a hover delay for palette selections.
The Fix: This addresses an issue where the first color was occasionally skipped on a fresh start, this was due to the processing form showing for a moment taking focus from the Rust Client. By introducing a tiny delay, we ensure the UI interaction is fully processed before the painting begins.
Adaptive Palette Color Correction
Improved the delay between all mouse move, and input operations.
Why this matters: Previously, the mouse was moving to the canvas so quickly that the color selection hadn't finished processing, often resulting in the line being painted black. This fix ensures the palette update is confirmed before the brush touches the canvas.
📈 Known Issues
We are continuing to monitor "Turbo" mode on a variety of hardware configurations to find the absolute ceiling for safe painting speeds.
Ultra-wide screens, those using aspect ratios higher than the standard 16:9 report major issues with coordinate scaling. This is due to the screen space being insanely high for the width. You can mitigate this issue by going into your Display Settings, and setting your resolution to a non-ultra wide aspect ration, and select letterbox. This will constrain your monitor to a true 16:9 screen space and it will paint fine.
