It's been a while, but I'm finally back with a Steam project after a couple on months smacking my head against a wall while making jam games.
This time it will be a smaller project, since the demonic possession gamedev energy that fueled Kuentame seems to be on vacation. As cool as the 3D pre-rendered graphics look, there's an issue that's making it hard for me to try it again: my job involves computers, so having my hobby projects be entirely made on a computer becomes really tiring for both the brain and eyes. With my earlier games that problem was avoided using stock images since editing them took less time that making 3D models, but that style had the problem or making me dependent on an Internet connection. For a while I was stuck between these 2 options, until...
Something I've been wanting to do in a long while as a "nostalgia horror" based on old Spanish slapstick comics, or "tebeos". Think "Mortadelo y Filemón" or "Superlopéz". What held me back is that I wanted to reflect the chaotic feel of this comics in the gameplay while keeping it a horror game. For years no idea seemed to work... until a while ago, in which a combat system I made for a game jam project actually worked fine.
To reflect the comics' style I decided to use hand-drawn doodles for the background and normal characters, and photograph them via webcam. To make the monsters stand out I'm using some webcam photos of objects in them, which means I finally found a style that does not require everything to be made digitally and can be done offline.
So, here it is (at least its page): Nostalgiallo! Point-and-click puzzles! Democracy-based combat system! Weird eldritch sci-fi lore!
It's still fairly early in development, I'm trying out having the game page up before the demo is released:
