Ahoy! Since the very first day of Early Access in December we received tons of feedback about what people want to see in Tempest. Open world is the most wanted feature. It's not a small task, but the game got such warm welcome from Steam community that we decided to give it a shot. This devblog will be updated on a constant basis by Avreliy.dev. He is a lead developer of Tempest, this project has been his lifework for the last two years and he is extremely honest about what is possible and what is not. This should be interesting. Comments, feedback and suggestions are most welcome.
Part I
Battle locations are back. While loading, the space is being analyzed and if it appears to be very empty, a location emerges there. As a result, there will be 136 locations on the first map, filling the emptiness. By the way, there is loot at the locations so there is an opportunity to get some bonuses.
And I’m also experimenting with a view from a captain’s place, it turns out to be a great fun:
Other improvements:
- Rating system for the fractions has been changed.
- The penalty for shooting at the ship that is located perpendicularly to the player has been re-duced.
Part II
I worked on a board graphics a little, adding animation for a rotation of a steering wheel right on the ship:
I discovered that furrowing the seas and taking part into battles with the first person view is very exciting...
Also, I changed mechanics of the crew’s impact on ship parameters. Now there is an opportunity to take the sea even without a crew, but in this case reloading the guns takes 100 seconds, aiming takes 30-40 seconds, and a player without a crew loses 80% of ship speed on a global map.
And now the Black Jack for factions will be available with the starter pack. There is a new slot in the decor interface where you can set the Black Jack for factions. Now a fort can treat us as an ally only if we have the same factional flag as the fort. It is very beneficial to have an allied fort because the player can come to the fort and deal under its protection with enemies shadowing the ship early on.
Other improvements:
- The equipment system has been changed. Now it is not necessary to equip sails, skin or guns to take the sea.
