Update (7th Dec 2015 - archived announcement from Greenlight page)

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has been giving feedback on the alpha. Lots of tweaking and balancing has gone in as a result, alongside the continuous addition of new features. Progress is still moving very fast and I'm excited to start opening up the multiplayer servers in the next week or so. I have no idea what kind of bloodbath to expect, but it's going to be fun to watch ;)

I'm trying hard to respond to all the messages, but it's been a bit overwhelming the last few days since a few YouTubers have been posting play-throughs on the solo mode (so sorry if I haven't responded). Worth noting that none of them have yet managed to break through the early survival stage and move into the actual base-building side of the game (which is where most of the complex systems are).

For those waiting for testing keys:

Keys are going out at a slow rate at the moment. I want to be able to fix bugs and balancing issues as they surface from the alpha testing before sending out too many. More will be going out soon, so please stay tuned.

Hint for players trying to get a base established:

All of the advanced base construction options start from your Base Command Unit (BCU). This needs to be placed on a wall of your base.

Some clarity on the focus of the game design:

It seems there is an assumption that Subsistence is primarily a single player game. This is simply not the case. Subsistence was built from the ground up to be a multiplayer game. The solo mode is there for people that want to go solo and build a base on their own, and still presents a challenge without the threat of other humans.

Ps. For those finding it difficult to navigate and gather at night; glow sticks are now a thing (see pics below), and all survivalist now come equipped with one.
