Curious to learn about the creation process behind our Key Art for Craftiny? Perfect timing, because I’m revealing it right now.
To get a first idea of what I wanted, I made a list of the elements I absolutely wanted to include in the illustration, then I started making a few sketches. Just a warning: these were quick sketches that I quickly decided to abandon.
It’s a little embarrassing to show… but in the end, they were a good guide that helped me better define what I wanted. I then decided to create a 3D scene in Blender using the assets I had already created for the game. I placed them however I wanted until I found a composition that I liked. It looked like this:
This is the concept I decided to use as the foundation for the illustration.
Next, we needed to find an artist. Because no, I (Sarah) am not the one who created the main illustration. Even though I am an artist myself, I still have my limits and I am never fully satisfied with my own work.
Honestly, we didn’t have to look very far. Gabriel and I had already decided to work with Jay Pillerva again, the artist behind the Key Art of our first game, Sunrise’s Order. Her talent and professionalism impressed us so much that we didn’t hesitate for a second to work with her again for our second game.
After explaining in detail what I had in mind to Jay, all I had left to do was follow the progress of her work.
At each stage of production (sketch, lineart, base colors, lighting…), she shared her progress with me so I could give my feedback and point out the small adjustments I wanted to make. We repeated this process throughout the creation of the illustration until we reached the final result.

After 64 email exchanges between November 2025 and the end of January 2026 (I’m not kidding, I counted them), countless adjustments and many discussions, we finally reached the final result you know today.
