The Little Interlude
Hello everyone and welcome to another Feature Showcase. Today we have a short edition, just something to bridge the waiting time until the next Showcase. A small snack in between, before we serve a full menu again.
Before we begin, a question I’ve been asked several times: “Is there physics on Dings and Dongs?” Yes. Dings and Dongs follow the laws of physics. That concludes our scientific segment.
Leveling, Progressing, Moving Forward
Moving on to the actual content: leveling and the different progression systems that accompany your stay in Camino County.
Your character has a classic level, just like in many survival and RPG games. You level up, become stronger, tougher, gain bonuses and access to new things. The maximum level is 1000, but don’t worry — everything important unlocks much earlier. The high level cap mainly exists so that even after many hours you still feel progress and your XP doesn’t vanish into nothingness.
Then there is the Survival Stage, a system that constantly changes. If you survive, it rises. If you die, it drops. Other factors influence it as well. The higher the stage, the better the loot — but also the tougher the horde. A neat little system that constantly shows you how dangerous Camino County currently is for you.
And then there’s the Company Rank. You’re not here just for fun; you’re tasked with sending as many anomalous items as possible to your company. The more diligent you are, the higher your rank — and yes, there are rewards.
Behind the Curtain – What’s Happening Right Now
Behind the curtain, a lot is happening with the sound system right now. Music clips, ambient sounds, effects on all kinds of objects — all mixed so that action scenes don’t sound like a vacuum cleaner exploding. Once that’s done, the missing workbenches and recipes will be added. After that, everything you need to survive is basically in place: gathering, hunting, crafting, a house by the lake or in the woods, a vehicle in the garage, a cool soundtrack in your ears, and of course something to wear.
Release? Well…
As for the release… well. The release remains a mystery, even to me. There are currently 102 TODOs on the list. Some are done quickly, others stretch out like summer chewing gum. And then there are the famous “Oh, that also needs to be done” TODOs that suddenly jump out of the bushes and pretend they’ve always been there.
That’s it for this little Showcase in between — short, relaxed, a bit of fun, and hopefully enough to make the waiting time pleasant. Until next time, stay curious, stay brave, and take care of your Dings and Dongs.
