This grand annoucenement is too large to be posted here! Please see the original post for entire details!
This release is unreservedly huge. It's a full re-imagining of AI War, practically a sequel (but free to existing customers). Frankly there were more updates here than in a lot of sequels we've seen. So it is with some difficulty that we compile these highlights, as even the list of highlights is enormous, yet omits a lot of major changes. Listed here are just the things that have changed in the base game itself, this isn't even including all the stuff that was added as part of the new Children of Neinzul micro-expansion. Here are some of the shortened highlights:
- Grand total of 147 new ships, NOT counting new ones from Children of Neinzul.
- Enormous graphical overhaul. New special effects, new HUD and GUI, and starfields/nebulae have received improvements too.
- Soundtracks to both AI War and The Zenith Remnant have been completely remastered, and in a number of cases have new live performances. Soundtrack for Children of Neinzul was also done at this quality level. Two new bonus tracks, and an old unused track "Thor" is back with a live performance.
- Entire combat, repair, economic, and construction models have been almost completely rewritten.
- Concept of "shields" were replaced with armor.
- Simpification of internal ship-specific damage multipliers, now known as "hull types." Removes the "Strong Vs" and "Weak Vs."
- Heavy rebalancing of all ships.
- Performance has received a major boost in general. New "performance profiles" to throttle simulations/graphics load. Game in general is now better at degrading the framerate rather than the simulation speed.
- Reduced default ship caps, enabled Unit Cap Scales option in lobby.
- Significant reworking of the AI and how it defends its planets. AI turrets removed in favour of "Guardians."
- Player overhaul, such as more unlocked technology on campaign start, 2x faster ships compared to the AI, and knowledge re-scaling.
- Mac OSX support!
- Indirect support for Linux!
- No more installation pre-requisites for AI War!
