With the version 1.920 uploaded to Steam on July 2026, Dream City Fugitive has reached full release version. With that, the game is available to be purchased on Steam from August 4, 2026. So, what can be expected from the full release version? When we outlined designs of the game back then at the end of 2020, we want to create a combat heavy game which takes place in Dream City. We think we successfully delivered on those designs.
Early part of the game revolves around player navigating dangerous life of surviving as a fugitive on a small island populated by a few gangs and poor citizen. The game forces player to make a major choice at the early part of the game which split the storyline into 2 separate story branches.
If player chooses to join the vigilante group, player will be taken to Path A storyline. This is for all intent and purpose is the the main story of the game so it should be chosen when playing the game for the first time. If player refuses to join the vigilante group, player will be taken to Path B storyline. Playing in this story branch will expose to some shocking moments that eventually will lead player to a bizarre ending. You have play the game to discover how bizarre the ending is yourself.
As a combat heavy game, you have to get used to lots of grinding to improve your combat skills. This is basically repeating fighting some enemies. The game has demo version. Download and play it first to find out if you can tolerate the grinding. If you can't tolerate the grinding, then the game is not for you.
Even though the game features lots of combat, there are significant amount of story exposed through talking to people in the game. The dialogues are presented in typical visual novel format so there is almost no choice input required. Only in rare situation that you have to make choice to affect the flow of story. There's also a few instances of text-based puzzle in those dialogues. For record, there are close to 65,000 words of dialogue for both Path A and Path B storyline. Depending on how fast you can read the dialogue, a few dialogues event can take several minutes to get through. Unfortunately, there is no skipping feature.
In addition to combat, the game revolves around earning lots of money to progress through the game. You'll be given lots of money at some point in the game. You'll be wise to invest the money to fund a dangerous operation in the future. Since the island is a tourist attraction, you can make money by dealing with illegal substance of which the supplies can be sourced from the gangs. Even fighting some enemies can earn yourself some decent money if you manage to survive the fight.
Since the game has reached full release version, there's plan for free post-release content in the future. So keep an eye for that.
