0.32 — Make Someone
Until now the people you talked to in Game of Mods came from a file: a VRM you imported, or one we shipped. This update lets you make one from nothing, by talking, and hand it to a character.
Shape an avatar with your voice
In the Construct, say "create an avatar called Mara" and a real anime style body appears on the pedestal a couple of seconds later. Then talk to it the way you'd talk to a tailor: "make her taller", "much shorter hair", "darker eyes". Each change rebuilds the avatar and shows it to you. Ask "describe avatar" and the Operator reads back what it looks like: height, build, hair, outfit, colours. Say "undo" to step back.
Every step is spoken as well as shown, so you can do the whole thing without looking at the screen.
Give it to a character
In NPC Studio there's a new Choose in the Construct button. It drops you in front of your avatars; say "next" and "previous" to walk through them, and "I want this avatar" to bind one to the character. The mod remembers the choice, and undo in the mod restores the old avatar and its record together.
Authored avatars carry a provenance file that says exactly how they were made, so a mod that ships one can prove it isn't someone else's work.
Fixes you'll notice
- A mod you already subscribed to no longer stops loading after an update because a hash drifted. It loads with a warning; the check that matters still runs when you publish.
- Saying "play" and then changing your mind no longer launches the journey anyway.
- A long answer from one character can no longer be cut off by the timer from the previous question.
- Voice in the Construct routes to the right place again, and if something goes wrong at startup the game tells you what, out loud.
- Characters remember the right things across sessions: memory extraction and recall were fixed.
- Player avatars in journeys resolve correctly, and a journey that asks for a body that isn't there is refused instead of showing nothing.
A note on what this is
Game of Mods is being built in the open, and this is still early. Authored avatars are drafts: one body style today, more to come. If something feels wrong, say so on the discussions board — the person who wrote the code reads it.
