Just thought I'd let everyone know that there's a huge update for SimplePlanes available on Steam now for beta testing. Ridiculous amount of new features and places to fly.
New Islands
- TWO NEW BIG FEATURE ISLANDS, but you'll need to find them yourself.
- Also added over twenty smaller islands scattered throughout the ocean.
New Parts
- Resizable Wheels - Because why not make this game SimpleCars too?
- Car Engine - So you can power those new wheels!
- Beacon Light - Light up the skies.
- Shock - Since you'll be building cars now, you'll need these.
- Piston - Sometimes you just need to push parts away from each other.
- Hinge Rotator - Finally, right?
- Small Rotator - It's a slimmer version of the current rotator.
- Extra Large Jet Engine - For all you airliner lovers.
Features and Tweaks
- 6 new races unlockable by discovering them in sandbox mode.
- 12 achievements for the new races.
- 2 new songs
- Added discoverable locations
- Made the locations dialog awesome
- Added a heading indicator
- Added a new stock aircraft (dune buggy)
- Added elevator trim
- Replaced some training levels with an interactive tutorial
- The fuselage part can now be resized by 0.25 increments
- Jet engines now have a power multiplier that is XML mod-able
- Jet engine sound now changes pitch with throttle.
- Jet engine/VTOL exhaust scale is now XML mod-able
- Aircraft are now a little bit more resilient to collision damage
- Added search filters to the load aircraft and subassemblies panels
- Split settings XML into two separate files so that progress-related settings can be saved to the Steam cloud.
- Bullet size no longer scales throughout flight
- Bullet tracer color is now XML mod-able
- Performance tweaks
- Game engine upgrade (Unity 5.1.4 -> Unity 5.3.4)
We plan on running the beta until next Friday (4/15) before releasing the final 1.4 update on Steam.
How to get Beta
- Open the Steam client
- Right click on the game in your library and click “Properties”
- Click the “Betas” tab
- From the “Select the beta you would like to opt into:” drop-down select public-test
- Steam should start downloading the public-test version of the game. You can also verify that you are playing the public test by checking the version in the “About” menu from the initial menu: 1.4.0.1
