Today I’m ready to reveal one of the major new systems coming in Ruina’s June update: Arcana.
Arcana is a brand new scoring layer that can appear on both Gems and Scrolls, adding even more ways to scale builds, create synergies, and completely break the game.
For Gems, Arcana exists alongside existing Enhancements like Polished, Brilliant, Cracked, and Prismatic. This means Gems can now have both an Enhancement and an Arcana bonus at the same time, opening up a huge number of new build possibilities.
There are 5 Types of Arcana:
Veiled - gives +50 score when scored
Hallowed - gives +1 Gold when scored for scrolls, and +1 Gold when left on the board for Gems
Etheric - gives +10 Mult when scored
Luminous - gives X1.5 Mult when scored
Celestial - Replays the scroll or gem
There are several ways to obtain Arcana during a run:
Scrolls now have a chance to appear in shops with Arcana bonuses attached
New Wands can apply Arcana directly onto Gems in your bag
Gems offered during Drafts also have a chance to appear with Arcana already applied
The goal of this system is to make individual pickups and shop decisions feel much more exciting while creating stronger high-roll moments and more run-to-run variety.
Alongside the new Arcana system, the June update is also adding 25 brand new Scrolls, bringing the total number of Scrolls in Ruina to 100.
All of the new Scrolls will be unlocked by default, allowing players to immediately experiment with the new combinations and build paths introduced in the update.
I’ve also spent time reworking Scroll rarities across the game. Over time, some Scrolls proved far too powerful to remain Common, while others simply weren’t impactful enough to justify consuming a Rare roll. The update includes a broad rebalance of Scroll rarity distribution to better support progression, build variety, and overall run balance.
I’m still actively testing and tuning the update - so some of these things are subject to change.
More reveals and gameplay previews are coming soon!
