Hey guys,
So this week in Scarred Steel I found myself in a battle with ChatGPT — not over code this time, but over making images without backgrounds. What should have been a simple “remove background” request turned into hours of back-and-forth chaos.
This is my first ever game and I’ve decided to build it with AI because I have zero coding experience.
It’s been a mix of fun struggles and endless errors, but also exciting progress along the way.
In this devlog, you’ll see:
My painful attempts at getting AI to generate proper equipment portraits without backgrounds
A major bug where armor wouldn’t appear in-game because of an equipment manager oversight
Progress on the new balance mechanic and some fun new character stance images

I’m looking forward to sharing progress with you each week as I work toward the first demo release!
