Greetings Lanistas!
Bringing the arena to life
A lot has changed since our last update and there is still plenty we want to improve, but this is the first time we feel ready to open the arena doors and let you see where combat is heading.
Over the past months, we've put a lot of work and iteration into the arena. We knew Gladiatorum couldn't become the game we want it to be unless the spectacle of its fights matched our ambitions and vision for the title.
Until now, we've shown you many of the systems surrounding the life of a lanista - managing your ludus, developing your gladiators, scouting opponents and preparing for the battles ahead.
But there is one part of Gladiatorum: Sacramentum that we have deliberately kept behind closed doors.
The fights themselves.
Today, for the first time, we're ready to show you what happens when your decisions finally reach the sands.
And this is only one part of the much larger management game we're building around it.
More than watching two gladiators fight
Combat in Gladiatorum is not about directly controlling your fighter. Your work begins before he ever enters the arena.
Study your opponent. Compare the matchup. Choose the gladiator you believe is right for the fight. Decide how he should approach the battle through his stance and fighting style.
Then send him onto the sands and live with those decisions.
Once the fight begins, you remain the lanista on the sidelines. You can read the battle as it develops, change your tactical stance and shout commands to your gladiator, but ultimately, he is the one inside the arena.
His attributes, training, condition, morale, fighting style, opponent and the decisions you've made all come together in the simulation unfolding in front of you.
We'd love to hear what you think
This is an important milestone for us, and we're especially interested in your first impression of the fights.
Does the arena feel like something you would want to send your gladiators into?
Let us know in the comments.
And if you enjoy what you see, sharing the video or showing Gladiatorum to someone who might enjoy this kind of game helps us enormously.
Thank you for following the development of Gladiatorum: Sacramentum.
The arena is finally open!
