Alignment
I talked about this in the last blog post, but it's a way to flavorfully simply and look at the actions of everybody and reference it with the 9 point axis system of law vs chaos and light vs dark. Everybody has a default and that default changes if default personalities are turned off.
Before implementing a full on action tracking system, I knew I wanted something separate from it that's easier to call upon and manipulate.
Mirror Room
This unlocks a special room for this and it costs no energy to view the data. Originally it was going to be a simulated trial that shows how everyone could vote. I realized it ended up being too revealing, it would become extremely easy to see who the mole would vote for and compare it to the simulation. It didn't have much thought in finding the weakpoint, and it's not good game design to give such a powerful ability to any character for free.
Now the idea is it shows everyone's alignments anonymously with a blue dot on a chart. Naturally, those committing murders or planning them lean towards Dark Chaos while those supporting the group will lean closer to Light Law. Dark alignment is harder to gain than Light since you actively have to be aggressive to get it. Chaos is a big more mixed since good actions can be more chaotic. It allows for more interpretation.
It also has 5 questions showcased with answers close to who it could be, but intentionally made to provide false positives once in a while.
1. Who is most likely to kill next?
It's sorted where the person with the most dark actions is selected.
2. Who is expected to die next?
It's sorted where the person who is the most naive is selected.
3. Who is most likely the mole?
Uses multiple aspects of alignment, points, and more to determine who has acted the most mole like against the group. This does make it where anybody being aggressive like question 1 can be used.
4. Who has the strongest chance of winning?
A separate point system was added for this and questions 3/5 where it calculates the idea of each action on it's own.
5. Who has the strongest chance to protect the mole?
The mole is never the answer here, and it calculates how everybody views the mole with some variance. This way you can use people's relationships against each other.
I think these questions and the alignment chart showcases more introspective information than being outright aggressive with saying who the mole is through data. It gets stronger the less people their are, but the mole also gets stronger when that happens as well due to hardening evidence for them to be normal. Anybody that is dead isn't used for these calculations.
Overall this makes the mirror of fates weaker near the start of the game, but if not diversifying actions, becomes extremely easy to point things out in the mid to late game.
Anything else?
It might be time to start the extensive background tracking system with implementing it. The alignment system and the secondary points system was a success. Doing it now will make it easier later down the line when editing and bug fixing happens.
