The Fortified Space demo is reaching a really good spot. The positive feedback from players continues to roll in, and it is keeping me energized heading into Steam Next Fest. Don't forget to give this game a wishlist if you haven't already! This round of updates mostly focuses on making the game more visually appealing. Some of the improvements include:
Bloom and glow effects have been added to human and alien starships, allowing engines to smolder and flames to illuminate. Alien ships now have a bright red outer ring. Railgun shots burn brightly for the split second they are visible. Your ship is bathed in light as it comes out of warp.
Ship point-defense turrets no longer fire dull streams of yellow shells; they now shoot glowing white shells that kind of look like stars.
When in orbit around a planet, there are sunlight effects to show the proximity to a star.
The Mission Select console aboard your ship now flashes slowly so that new players will know where to go for mission select.
Shadows are now visible whenever the player is on the surface of a planet.
Also, to celebrate one month of updates since the demo was first released, I recorded a new playthrough video and trailer. These capture most of the improvements I have made to the demo over the past month. I hope you enjoy!
