Hey everyone.
We are approaching a big and important milestone: the migration from the old client-server platform to the new one. We plan to make the switch on Monday, September 21. I will announce the exact maintenance time later. The game client will be completely replaced, and you will need to download it again in full, because every single game file will be different.
For those who have not been following the development of our client, let me explain why this matters and what players get from the new client:
- The client is built on a modern game engine, which lets it run on PC, mobile devices, in the browser, and on consoles. That gives us the ability to expand to the platforms that are convenient for you, and with them, the number of players. Already this autumn we plan to release the game on Google Play.
- On modern devices performance grows significantly, and the game now has in-game FPS and image quality settings: the old client was simply locked to your monitor's refresh rate, the new one lets you tune both performance and picture the way you want.
- You will feel the difference right away: a built-in FPS meter, a chat you can hide, no more freezes while traveling across the world, and when you pick an item in your bag, the slot where it can be equipped is highlighted in green.
- The new client is far more responsive: the server tickrate is much higher, which means lower delays, snappier controls, and skills that fire instantly.
- The client no longer leaks memory: no more crashes at the worst possible moment, it stays stable for as long as you play.
- The new client's window can be resized dynamically any way you like. Stretch it however is comfortable: the client is no longer tied to fixed screen resolutions. And the interface scale is now adjustable in the settings too.
- The asynchronous client-server protocol keeps the server stable under mass interactions.
- Absolutely every player action is validated by the server: no kind of cheat can even theoretically be applied to the new client.
- Most importantly, the new client gives us, the developers, unlimited room for integrating new content and updates. Our nearest plans after the migration: the big Warehouse, additional pet skills, the platinum costume, in-game crafting, and many other changes.
Even though the new client has been tested for the last 6 months, bugs are possible. For the first few days after the switch we will be watching your feedback in the Discord chat especially closely, solving problems and shipping updates as fast as we can.
I strongly recommend that every one of you download the PTS client from our launcher right now and try logging into the game. Make sure everything works for you, so you do not run into problems after Olympia and Elysium move to the new client. If the PTS client does not work for you right now, update your drivers; if that does not help, post to the PTS channel of our Discord server with a screenshot, and we will help you, so that on September 21 you have no trouble logging in.
As a final load test, this Saturday, September 19, we will run one more cross-server Battle of Pindus on the PTS server. For taking part, every player will receive the amount of bGold they earned on the PTS, delivered to the web warehouse of their main server. Please report every bug and problem you run into during the event to the PTS channel of our Discord, so we can fix them on Sunday and ship a fully polished version on Monday.
A new era begins for GodsArena. Fasten your seatbelts, we are taking off.
