The moon does not make you safe.
It does not make you kind. It does not make you a hero. But for the Garou, the moon means something.
In Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn, Taylor is a newly awakened Garou fighting through a world poisoned by corruption, exploitation, and the Wyrm’s influence. But Taylor is also stepping into something much older than one person’s fight.
The Garou have their own history. Their own wounds. Their own traditions. Their own names for what Rage can become.
One of those traditions is the Auspice.
In Werewolf: The Apocalypse, White Wolf’s supernatural horror franchise set in the World of Darkness, an Auspice is tied to the moon. More specifically, it reflects the moon-sign connected to a Garou’s First Change: the moment they first transform and begin to understand what they truly are.
It’s not like a human who has a passing interest in astrology, an Auspice tells a Garou their sacred role in the pack. A responsibility. A way the Garou learn to make sense of the monster they have become.
And in a world already deep in Apocalypse, every role matters.

What is an Auspice?
Every Garou is a creature of contradictions. Human and wolf. Flesh and spirit. Protector and predator. Rage and purpose.
Auspices help the Garou understand where they fit within the pack, the war, and the stories they tell about themselves. Some Garou are born to question. Some are called to listen to spirits. Some judge. Some remember. Some fight.
Once you know the role Luna has placed on your shoulders, the question becomes: What will you do with it?

Ragabash
New Moon. Trickster. Question.
The Ragabash is the knife hidden in the joke.
Changed under the New Moon, the Ragabash exists to question what others accept too easily. They challenge tradition, mock arrogance, expose weakness, and ask the uncomfortable questions the rest of the pack might avoid.
Why do we do it this way? Who benefits from this rule? What if the plan is stupid?
Ragabash energy: Clever, disruptive, irreverent, suspicious of authority, dangerous when underestimated.

Theurge
Crescent Moon. Mystic. Spirit-Talker.
The Theurge listens when the world whispers.
Changed under the Crescent Moon, the Theurge is the Garou most deeply tied to spirits, signs, rites, and the unseen world. Where others see only a ruined building, the Theurge may feel the spirit of the place choking on what happened there. Where others hear wind through dead trees, the Theurge may hear warning, grief, hunger, or rage.
Theurge energy: Mystical, eerie, intuitive, spiritual, drawn to hidden truths and unseen forces.

Philodox
Half Moon. Judge. Balance.
The Philodox stands between extremes.
Changed under the Half Moon, the Philodox is the judge, mediator, and interpreter of Garou law and custom. In a society of Rage-driven shapeshifters, that role can be the only thing standing between a disagreement and a bloodbath.
The Philodox asks what is just, right, fair.
Not what feels good. Not what satisfies the Rage. Not what wins the argument fastest. What is just.
Philodox energy: Principled, observant, balanced, stern, tactical, concerned with consequences.

Galliard
Gibbous Moon. Storyteller. Memory.
The Galliard makes sure the dead are not silent.
Changed under the Gibbous Moon, the Galliard is the voice of the pack: storyteller, singer, historian, hype-builder, mourner, and keeper of Renown.
The Garou are creatures of legend, but legends do not survive on their own. Someone has to remember the names. Someone has to say the names. Someone has to tell the story right. Someone must make sure that victory, failure, sacrifice, betrayal, and grief are carried forward. It is the memory of what was lost, sharpened into a reason to keep going.
Galliard energy: Bold, emotional, expressive, dramatic, inspiring, drawn to legacy and meaning.

Ahroun
Full Moon. Warrior. Rage.
The Ahroun is the answer with claws.
Changed under the Full Moon, the Ahroun is the warrior of the Garou. When the enemy reveals itself, when the ambush begins, when the talking ends, the Ahroun steps forward.
This is the Auspice most directly tied to battle, but that does not make it simple.
Ahroun energy: Direct, intense, protective, aggressive, fearless, built for confrontation.
What does this mean for Rageborn?
In Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn Luna’s light does not simply reveal what Taylor is. It asks what kind of Garou Taylor will become.
As the player, you will choose Taylor’s Auspice — the moon-sign that shapes their role, instincts, and relationship to the Apocalypse. That choice is not only lore. It carries into the game itself, bringing bonuses, consequences, and different ways to feel the weight of being Garou. We’ll talk more about how Auspices specifically impact Rageborn’s gameplay in a future post. But for now, remember:
An Auspice is a blessing. A burden. A path through the dark.
Whether you are new to Werewolf: The Apocalypse or already know the howl by heart, choosing Taylor’s Auspice gives you a deeper look at what it means to be Garou.
Not just what Taylor can become.
What Taylor is willing to carry.
