Greetings, Tavern Keepers🍻
It is time to dive deeper into the world and the characters you will encounter in Evergreen Tavern. I spent a long time thinking about where to start, but introducing you to the Mushies feels like the perfect beginning.
The First Inhabitants of Evergreen
These little guys are the very first monsters that showed up in Evergreen. At first, they were incredibly shy. They would freeze completely whenever anyone looked their way, making the villagers think they were just ordinary forest mushrooms.
Over time, the Mushies realized they actually liked humans and their strange ways. They started helping out the villagers who were building the town by bringing them glasses of water and food. Now, they are ready to join your tavern staff!
Tavern Duties and Habits
In your tavern, the Mushies are fantastic helpers for managing the crowd. They will gladly serve customers who are waiting for their orders and will even pour drinks straight from the barrels when available. Just don't expect them to handle the stove, as they are completely unable to cook.
To keep your workforce happy, you need to know what makes them tick. They like kindness, eating lettuce, and dancing. On the flip side, they absolutely dislike mean people, so keep the tavern vibes positive!
Folklore and Inspiration
Where did the idea for a mushroom monster come from? Well, these distinct mushrooms can be found in almost any forest, carrying a bit of a dark reputation alongside the legends surrounding them.
The Amanita, which is the proper name for this classic fly agaric, is famously toxic. However, back in the Middle Ages, it was also used in various rituals and sorcery, and in some regions, it served as a natural pesticide to get rid of flies. It felt completely natural to bring a mushroom known to everyone into the game, but give it a legendary, magical twist.
The Mushies are just the first of many creatures ready to help you run the ultimate cozy tavern. Stay tuned for the next monster feature, and don't forget to add Evergreen Tavern to your Steam wishlist!
Cheers! 🍄
