'Why 8-Bit Adventures is Worth Your Time' Complete Article Series!

As some of you may know, over the past month I've written a series of articles about 'Why 8-Bit Adventures is Worth Your Time'. These focus on some of my favourite things about the game and analyse the design decisions that shaped the title.

There are 5 articles in total, but if you don't have time to read them all, the final piece contains a quick summary of the important points - i.e. why the game is worth your time. I've placed this summary below, for convenience, but if you want to know more, I highly recommend reading through the series!

#1 - NPC Dialogue

#2 - Story-Telling & References

#3 - Aesthetic & Authenticity

#4 - Pacing & Balance

#5 - My 'Final Fantasy'

Now, as promised, let’s briefly summarise – why is 8-Bit Adventures worth your time?

  1. It’s a polished retro RPG experience which pays homage to the past, but also tells its own unique and multi-layered story.
  2. A major focus on pacing and creating a consistently enjoyable adventure, rather than dragging things out or artificially extending the length to the detriment of the player (e.g. with grinding).
  3. A well-balanced experience with a gentle difficulty curve that allows players of all skill levels to enjoy the game. And RPG veterans can look forward to side-quests and super bosses which provide a significant challenge!
  4. A vibrant and varied 8-Bit inspired art style, which walks the line between authenticity and aesthetic.
  5. NPCs with unique and interesting dialogue fill the world – everyone has a story and RPG fans will want to discover them all!
  6. A beautifully composed, NES-accurate 32 song soundtrack which sets the tone and brings the world to life.
  7. Retro, turn-based combat enhanced by a persistent element system that impacts every weapon, piece of armour, and enemy. In 8-Bit Adventures, victory requires more than spamming the Attack button!
  8. A likeable cast of characters who form relationships, make mistakes, and struggle with their past, but still work to save the world and overcome their demons.

I hope these articles provide some new insights into 8-Bit Adventures and RPG development in general. And I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys the game!

Thanks for reading! =)
