A new Rattus Velocitas update has been released!
More about this update's content can be found in the weekly report released in conjunction with this update.
NOTE: Due to a rather stupid mistake on my side with tracking first place finishes, your save file's progress will be reset when you first launch this update. I do apologise for the inconvenience, fortunately this won't happen again. Your selected Rat Skin will not be affected. More details are in this patch's accompanying weekly report.
NOTE: This update will partially break replays that had a ??? item attempt to target a player already over the finish line. This is only a visual bug and won't appear in new replays.
NOTE: The game manual currently still references the old Splitscreen multiplayer systems, this will be rectified in a future update.
Added the first wave of Steam Achievements! Enjoy attempting to obtain these. Additionally, just racing normally will likely unlock a lot of them.
To avoid confusing new players, the Player Profile menu is now accessed via a separate button in the Main Menu, rather than the Steam profile tile in the top-left.
The game now only needs 5 races to achieve Rat Racing Apprentice (down from 10)
The game now makes it obvious if onboarding is in progress, with the remaining races required to complete onboarding; this notification appears on the left side of the "Join Rat Race" menu.
The game now displays a notification to tell the player the performance ratio calibration has completed. This information is accessible via the player profile menu.
Splitscreen multiplayer has been partially overhauled:
Now, instead of selecting how many players will play a race, players are now required to press START or the equivalent button to "join" their controller to the play session. The player controller icons on the bottom of the screen reflect this. Physically disconnecting a controller or turning it off will automatically remove a player.
Due to this overhaul, it is no longer possible to change input device from KBM to Gamepad and vice versa during gameplay. Additionally, all controllers need to be disconnected to change back to Keyboard input while inside the Main Menu.
Player controllers no longer rearrange themselves after the race finishes if a controller got disconnected then reconnected during gameplay.
The player number select screen in the Main menu has been replaced with a Race Start confirmation:
Splitscreen participants can now change their Rat colour from the new "Ready to Race?" screen that replaces the old "How many players?" screen.
In addition, in singleplayer, this screen gives Player 1 the ability to change their Rat fur colour without entering the Player Profile menu first.
Added Bronze, Silver and Gold Rat colours obtainable by ranking up as you play more races; look out for them!
The Bronze skin is awarded for Rat Racing Conoisseurs, the Silver skin for Rat Racing Champions and the Gold Skin for Rat Racing Legends.
Fur shading on Rats has been improved.
Shading on Rats' eyes have been improved slightly.
Fixed a bug where audio volumes on startup were quieter than intended if not at 100% until the Options Menu's audio controls were adjusted and/or the game was paused then unpaused again.
Fixed a bug where background music didn't loop properly on the first loop.
Fixed a bug where world shadows sometimes didn't render properly at specific track sizes.
Fixed an issue where the publisher logos would stutter badly if the graphics driver was updated and/or the game was launched for the first time on a new computer. The game now properly waits for this process to finish.
Fixed a regression with the previous update's CPU-side optimisations that completely broke audio in splitscreen multiplayer for other viewports.
Fixed a bug introduced by the previous update that caused Player 4's audio in 4-player splitscreen to be distorted.
Tweaked the volume levelling and balance for 4-player splitscreen's speaker allocation to sound close to singleplayer's volume in most circumstances; please provide feedback if you play this mode often!
Fixed an oversight that caused Dialog windows (example: Rat Racing Rank notifications) to have extra buttons that didn't actually do anything useful.
Fixed an issue where ??? items would disappear completely while in flight if near the finish line.
Fixed a bug where the Replay List would stop working after viewing a replay then exiting it via the pause menu until a normal race was played.
Known issues:
In splitscreen multiplayer, some distant vehicles at high velocities are sometimes louder than intended.
Sometimes spent Missiles in splitscreen games leave behind a persistent Missile flight sound in the game world.
