It’s time for another experimental update! This time around we have new portable batteries that will enable power transfer between ships, and allow much smaller ship designs to become viable. On top of that there’s also the new Heavy Rail Gun, stretching 36 meters long, it’s the biggest weapon yet in Interstellar Rift.
Portable batteries are tools that can be made in a 3D printer. There are four different types, ranging from a T0 25k storage variant, to the top of the line 2.5 million storage T3 version.
The T3 battery uses rare new resources that can only be found in the high tier star systems. Among these new resources are Titanium, Manganese, and Lithium. Titanium and Manganese can be found in small amount in random asteroids, much like the rare resources that are already in the game. Lithium ore is found in new asteroids that usually carry quite a lot of this material.
To fill the batteries up, a portable battery charger has to be placed on board of your ship or station. Once filled, they can also be discharged using the same device. During this experimental update, we’ll be redesigning the buildable stations so batteries can used to power them.
The new Heavy Rail Gun is a large interior/exterior device that works mostly in the same way as it’s smaller version the Light Rail Gun does. It requires a new type of ammunition that is made from tungsten and titanium, and requires a pretty hefty dose of power to operate. But when you land your shots, it has a devastating effect on any object that might be in its path.
We’ve also tweaked the spread of resources over the different solar systems a bit, so water is now back in every system, and there is a higher chance that a system has multiple rare resources.
Behind the scenes we’ve been doing a lot of work on device stability, and performance logging, and we’ve added in a new system that checks that you’re being placed on board of a ship properly. So you’ll hopefully never have the misfortune of dropping through the floor after being disconnected in an ill-timed moment again.
