A Few Words From The Lead Developer (Seabass)
I spent a while on the new AI and a few optimizations. There have been many complaints about the framerate dropping over time and I have spent a lot of time to address that issue. I recommend starting a new game to actually take advantage of some of the changes I've made in this update. I am getting about 100 frames higher on average now that I've re-worked the terrain rendering system. Quite an improvement but I'm sure there is still room for further optimization. I finally added code to remove graves over time. Decals are deleted a bit more often now as well.
Another complaint I've seen a lot (even in reviews) is that there is not a ton of content. Idiotekque and I decided on our next approach to developing the game and have implemented it in this update. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised when they find the new content. It did take us a couple of days and some serious crunch time but we made it within the 5 day mark (by 15 minutes).
It was worth buckling down and getting through it to keep our promise to everyone that there will be an update every 3-5 days. I do not lie (at least I don't try to :P). It was a pain writing the code for some of the new AI and figuring out how I would fix the framerate outside of obvious issues.
I expect everyone will enjoy this update and what it brings. Thanks for supporting an indie developer. :CuteBearDoll:
A Few Words From The Artist (Idiotekque)
Hey guys! It's been a little while since our last update, but I do think it's been worth the wait. We've been listening to your feedback, and while we obviously can't cover all the suggestions quickly, something we have done in this update is take that feedback and let it work to prioritize what we've already been working on.
A piece of feedback that I really agreed with and set to addressing ASAP was the complaint that the difficulty of the game is very lacking. Basically you can start the game off with a rock and kill every enemy in the game with relative ease. That's silly, but sadly it's been necessary so that a character doesn't just start up the game and get murdered immediately. This update, however, is going to be a nice step forward in addressing that issue.
We've added a new biome, for starters. The environment needed some variety, so that was an immediate priority. With the biome will come new enemies. I'm not going to spoil anything, because you'll have to explore in game to find what I'm talking about, but what you'll find is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the direction we're heading in. Be prepared for some tougher battles!
In addition to that, I've also expanded the ever-increasing library of character customization parts with some new hairstyles and a new shirt type. More will come, so hopefully there will be something for everyone.
That's all from me. Hope you all enjoy the new biome and what it brings!
