LiveCap v3.0.1 ⚡ The Blackwell Update
RTX 50xx, now actually working.
Fixed: RTX 5090 not working in CUDA mode
Right after v3.0.0 shipped, we received a Discord report: "CUDA mode won't start on my RTX 5090."
The cause was that the PyTorch we bundled had been baked slightly before the RTX 50xx (Blackwell) series launched. Like reheating a lunchbox and finding it still cold.
v3.0.1 swaps in a PyTorch CUDA 12.8 build (with Blackwell support). RTX 5060 / 5070 / 5080 / 5090 should all just work in CUDA mode now.
Big thanks to the user who reported this.
Still supported
GTX 10xx (1050 / 1060 / 1070 / 1080 / 1080 Ti) — Pascal
GTX 16xx (1650 / 1660 / 1660 Ti) — Turing
RTX 20xx — all of them — Turing
RTX 30xx — all of them — Ampere
RTX 40xx — all of them — Ada
RTX 50xx — all of them — Blackwell ← NEW
Datacenter cards (A100, H100, L40S, etc.) keep working as well.
NVIDIA Driver requirements
v3.0.1 bundles the CUDA 12.8 runtime. Existing RTX 20xx / 30xx / 40xx users can run with any standard CUDA 12.x-capable driver (Windows 528.33+ / Linux 525.60.13+). Latest version recommended.
Only RTX 50xx (Blackwell) users need a newer driver that recognizes the GPU:
Windows: Game Ready Driver 572.16 or later (matches the RTX 50xx launch driver)
Linux: NVIDIA Driver 570.124.06 or later
Check the Driver Version in the top-right of nvidia-smi. Older drivers will surface a "Driver too old" style error.
GPUs no longer supported in CUDA mode
PyTorch 2.8 (CUDA 12.8) dropped Maxwell and Pascal-datacenter generations. So in this version, the following cards no longer work in CUDA mode (CPU mode still fine):
GTX 970 / 980 / 980 Ti
Titan X (Maxwell)
GTX 750 / 750 Ti
Quadro M series
Tesla P100
Jetson Nano
Practically speaking, these cards (4-6 GB VRAM) were already struggling with anything larger than Whisper Small, so the actual impact should be small. Probably. Sorry.
"Actually, I'd like to stay on v3.0.0"
If you want to keep using CUDA on a Maxwell GPU, you can stay on the v3.0.0 branch via Steam betas.
Right-click livecap-gui in your Steam library → Properties
Open the Game Versions and Betas tab
Under "Beta Participation," select v3.0.0
Steam will start downloading v3.0.0 automatically
Note: staying on v3.0.0 means you won't get future updates (improvements, bug fixes, new engines). If at all possible, upgrading to a newer GPU is recommended.
If something breaks
RTX 50xx not working, questions about Maxwell, unsure how to roll back — anything goes on the official Discord.

Happy captioning.
