Director's Cut and Future Plans

On its release anniversary, we share our plans for Tales of Cosmos and its upcoming expansion!

One Year Anniversary

Tales of Cosmos was released one year ago today, and it's been an inspiring year for us. We've been looking at all the valuable feedback and the criticism we've received, and paying close attention to how players play our game.

With Tales of Cosmos we wanted to take game design in a new direction, marrying point-and-click gameplay with open world exploration and space travel. While we think this is an exciting direction for us to explore, as with anything new there have been some blunders along the way. Looking back, there are some aspects of the game we wish we would have approached differently.

We've learned a lot from your feedback, and it has inspired us to make the game even better. We're happy to announce that we've been working on ways to improve Tales of Cosmos, and make it the game we've always wanted it to be.

Stick around to find out what we're planning for our game going forward.

Tales of Cosmos: Director's Cut

Tales of Cosmos: Director's Cut is an expansion pack we're working on for Tales of Cosmos that will introduce to the game a host of new features and content in upcoming updates and DLC. The Director's Cut will be freely available to everyone who already owns Tales of Cosmos.

Our goal with the Director's Cut is twofold. First, we've taken our players' feedback and come up with ways to address some of the criticisms Tales of Cosmos has received. Second, we're adding new features and content that we had planned to include in the original release, but had to leave out due to time constraints. We're very excited to share all of these improvements with you.

Below we'll list some of the new features that will be included in Tales of Cosmos: Director's Cut.

Boreal Six: The Ice Planet
Boreal Six is an entire new planet for you to explore, with a host of new puzzles and challenges. You can visit Boreal Six at any time during the game, provided you have a spaceship. This arctic planet has its own storyline that's separate from the game's main story, so you'll need no external items to start and complete this adventure. There's even a unique reward to gain for astronauts who brave the icy wastes.

A New Ending
The Director's Cut will introduce a second ending for Tales of Cosmos that players can trigger by completing a number of side tasks before the end of the game. These side tasks will involve lots of new puzzles and characters, and they will take you to new outlandish locations, both on planets and in outer space.

Improved Puzzles
Player feedback has helped us identify that some of our original puzzles were lacking in design or involved faulty logic that sometimes mislead players, causing frustration. We want our puzzles to be challenging, but fair. In the Director's Cut we're reinforcing the design of any lacking puzzles by adding better hints and reworking the puzzles themselves where needed.

Flight Journal
The Flight Journal is a new item that you can access through Gagayev's inventory and read whenever you like. It will include short profiles for the two main characters, as well as a convenient log of all the important information you will come across during your journey.

Space Walk
The Director's Cut will give Perseus and Gagayev the ability to leave their spaceship while it is floating in outer space and go on a space walk. The game will feature many new objects and puzzles in space to interact with during this extravehicular activity.

Warp Gates
While space travel is an integral part of Tales of Cosmos, it is clear from our players' feedback that traveling between planets can sometimes become a chore, especially in the latter part of the game. To address this, we're introducing Warp Gates—mysterious devices floating in outer space that allow intrepid travelers to traverse folds in spacetime and shorten their journey, but only after they find a way to unlock the gates themselves.

Other Improvements and Fixes
The Director's Cut will also include fixes for known bugs, a new zoom feature, visual enhancements to some in-game areas, new Steam achievements, and more!

We're confident that with all of these improvements, playing Tales of Cosmos: Director's Cut will be a whole new experience, and we're very excited to share it with you.
