Update time friends. Hope you’ve all had a good week. As I mentioned in my last update, this week I continued with my extended play-testing. I’ve identified a bunch of bugs, upgrades, and quality of life things that will all help shape Samphi into a more solid experience.
Let’s dive straight into it.
Let’s just jump straight into it. There are too many changes to cover them in depth, but this list will show what I’ve been up to!

V0.2g is live now on the beta branch, so go ahead and give it a download.
Tip: If you aren’t sure how to switch branches, head to your Steam library, right click Samphi, and select properties. Got to the BETAS tab, and there you can choose whether you pull updates from the beta channel or not. Warning: beta channel builds are more likely to contain bugs.
I should have done this last week but it slipped through the net! V0.2f has now been moved to the default branch, so you should see that update shortly. :)
For a reminder on what v0.2f brings check out this update.
So while doing my play-testing I really wanted two different colors of wood. I’ve had this on the radar for a while, but playing the game brought it to the top. I could just provide different wood colors from the existing trees, but that doesn’t make much sense to me. Instead, I’d like to add a second type of tree, one that will provide this darker wood.
I start playing with a new tree design, and mocking-up what the wood might look like in my house. The following screenshot is heavily WIP, but it shows what I’m currently up to so check it out:
You can see my roof is made of dark wood, there are windows, and I’ve started re-designing the tree. I’ve never been happy with the trees. Problem is, I find the art extremely hard, so it’s going to take me a while to get it right. :D
In the next update, I’ll be working on these new trees! They will then in-turn bring a new type of wood, and I’d like to also try to get glass back in the game. Glass was tricky, I had problems spawning it, but I’ll leave that discussion for next week. :)
There’s also a few other items left on my list that I made over the last 2 weeks, so I’ll also be working on the following:
- Add a sign item
- Add a glass item
- Add a darker wood block
- Re-draw tree
- Add new darker wood pine tree
- Update torch sprite
So that’s everything for this week. :) Hopefully spending this time looking for bug fixes and improvements will help round off some of the rougher edges of the game. Certainly not all of them, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Thanks for reading guys, see you back here next week? Ciao!
