In April 2014, we launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to help us to finance the reboot HD of Outcast, an action adventure game that we originally developped in 1999. Unfortunately we did not collect the funds expected to make this reboot.
Since we didn't get the resources for developing the reboot HD, we defined a roadmap which, hopefully, will lead us to finally achieve the HD reboot. The first step of this roadmap was to enhance the original version and make it available on Steam in order to broaden our audience.
Thus, we are happy to announce the release of Outcast 1.1 on Steam.
Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers.
It features the following improvements toward the original version:
- multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances,
- software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes,
- partial redesigned of the HDU to match higher resolutions,
- new high-resolution sky paintings,
- revamped launcher,
- native support of xbox and DirectInput gamepad,
- user-friendly controller configuration,
- selectable voices and subtitles languages
- a myriad of bugs fixed,
- improved stability.
We plan to keep working and updating the game in the future with significant technical shift to finally turn this game to HD and doing a follow up.
We hope you'll enjoy this enhanced version and I take this opportunity to thanks all the Outcast fans for their incredible support!
May the Yods be silent and Merry Christmas!
