United at Last - Update 0.3

Hey Everyone,

You've been waiting. It's finally here - Down To One is now running on Unity 5, with a huge raft of optimizations, changes, improvements, additions, and bugfixes in tonight's update as well. We are super excited for this patch, and the future possibilities & freedom that developing on Unity 5 offers.

Read on for the full patch notes.

Additions and Improvements

  • Added Painkillers - Having trouble aiming when on low health? Find yourself with 'the shakes' too often? Make sure you loot up a bottle of painkillers next time you find them.
  • Added loading screen when joining a server -The loading screen will also display a random helpful tip - pay attention!
  • Added new Fireaxe skin (Check it out!)
  • Added "Message of the Day" popup to the main menu -This MotD popup will also be used to feature a server from time to time, allowing for 1-click joining!
  • Added 2 new gesture types, Chest Pump & Facepalm
  • Added detail textures to various objects around the map
  • Everyone can now switch who they're spectating (with E & Q)
  • Improved many building shaders & textures
  • Replaced old shadow system with new Unity 5 shadows, which perform much better & render at longer distances -Currently there is a bug which causes the players first-person shadows to not render, this will be fixed
  • Upon joining a server, your screen will now fade in after loading everything
  • Moved all old PBR shaders to the new Unity Uber-Shader
  • Updated anti-cheat & added new cheat detectors
  • Decreased load times & improved startup video performance
  • Re-worked Quality Settings -Now, the quality settings in the launcher actually affect everything in-game, instead of just LOD & textures - if you've changed any video settings, make sure to use the "Custom" quality setting for those changes to be applied in-game
  • Screenshots captured with F12 are now dated properly
  • Added initial support for 5:4 aspect ratios
  • Increased radius of Artillery shells
  • Decreased Vityaz mag spawn rate
  • Added new (proper) tonemapping
  • Switched to forward rendering -As well as fixing some Unity 5 bugs, forward rendering also performed better in all tests we ran. Expect some very nice perf. increases!
  • More bird optimization
  • Various GC (Garbage Collection) optimizations, to decrease stutter

Bug fixes

  • Fixed some windows occluding the world outside them
  • Fixed some LODS & added new LODs for some weapons
  • Item interactions are now more reliable, and less likely to cause various bugs, like the "stuck on hands" bug
  • Trees now look like they should, instead of having weird looking billboards
  • Various spectator fixes
  • Jumping will no longer cause you to throw a held rock
  • Sprinting now cancels ADSing
  • Spectators can no longer earn an infinite amount of cash by joining in-progress servers over & over
  • Decreased shader loading stutter (Thanks to the most recent Rust dev-blog for reminding us that we should be doing this as well!)
  • The chopper will now drop its weapons crate more towards the centre of the map
  • Various Unity 5 API changes, and general refactoring/optimization

As you can tell, we've made a lot of changes with this patch! A lot of code has been refactored from our Unity 4 version, so if any new bugs pop up, head on over to our Bug Reporting Forum and let us know - we'll get them fixed ASAP.
