Upcoming update part 7: Player animations and menu changes

From the team

So far we've discussed the majority of changes that you can expect in the upcoming build. In this post we'll look into some additional improvements that haven't been mentioned yet.

Player colours and animation

Once the basic multiplayer goes live everyone joining a server will have a different colour. Further down the road we'd like to add in a system that allows you to customize your character in-depth and this is a first step in that direction.

We've also added animations to the player to ensure that multiplayer is a bit more streamlined. Since the reworked chat system already supports commands it's only a matter of time before we implement gesture commands like waiving, taunt, pointing, ...

That aside it's important to keep in mind that this is still a work in progress. Below you can see how the current animations look in-game (CLICK TO VIEW IN HQ):

Menu changes

Our in-game menu's have been updated as well, here are some of the key changes:

  • Build button has been moved to main meny
  • Reset button is gone
  • New multiplayer button
  • Vehicles (workshop) button removed from browser and added in main menu
  • DISCORD button added to main menu
  • News window added in main menu

In addition to the existing menu's we've also created one for multiplayer as well. Things are pretty straightforward, so here's a brief summary:

  • Official: here you'll be able to get a full list of all the official servers
  • Community: mainly contains servers hosted by the players
  • Custom: meant for servers with custom server modes
  • Favorited: click on the star icon in the server list to add a server as favorite
  • History: contains a list of the servers that you've joined in the past
  • Local Network: allows you to host a LAN server
  • Host server: set up your own public/private server

While these are the two biggest changes when it comes to menu's there have been a lot of improvements in other menu's as well. In addition to this all windows have been designed so that they work perfectly on all resolutions, and yes ... this also means 640px by 480px.

What's next

We'd like to end this post with saying that the update is closer than ever and that we expect to release it in a short amount of time. Therefore our following post will most likely focus on the update going live and some basic guidelines.
