Earlier this year Develop Magazine published a list of the top game engines. AGK was in the list. This is what they wrote;
App Game Kit is a cross-platform programming language which operates in BASIC or C++. By offering coders the means to write in open scripts, results can be created in minutes or customised to very specific needs.
The engine’s primary user base tends to be hobbyists. The Game Creators CEO Lee Bamber says they have built an enthusiastic forum community around AGK.
“Fragmentation is on the rise, and a modern engine must cater for multiple platforms and form factors as they emerge,” he says.
Bamber’s plans to add an advanced debugger, improved IDE features and more robust help.
He adds: “One of the biggest challenges is figuring out what the next big platform or form factor will be, and planning development to anticipate the inevitable demand from coders.
“We practically live on the cutting edge, and at this very moment we are looking at perceptual computing, virtual reality, variations on the Ultrabook and tablet themes, smart TVs and micro-consoles. Who knows what the future will bring?”
