Changelog, Wednesday November 18th (23.4213)

It’s been awhile since Face Off has had a substantial patch, but there’s a good reason for that. We announced XL last week, and we’re happy to say that our brand new game is available on Steam for you to check out - and it brings with it an enormous amount of changes for the version of Face Off you already play.

In addition to the changelog (attached below), we’re also excited to announce the arrival of some of our social media platforms, where you can find the most up to date information, as well as the official launch of our website. Check it out at http://faceoff.isotx.com! Or follow us on -

Changelog - 23.4213

New

  • On first load, players will now encounter a different screen on first play: they will get the choice of jumping right into a battle with the starter deck for Alliance, or go into the Tutorial, before being presented with the menu. The tutorial has a nice pack of rewards for completion. You are able to surrender the battle (but not the tutorial) if you choose not to play it through. This only happens on first load of the game per device. You can replay the Tutorial from the help screen at a later date, but you will not be able to get rewards on multiple playthroughs.
  • There are now several new languages for Face Off, including: German, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, and Spanish.
  • There is now a skull to indicate when a unit belongs to an opponent. The skull displays between the health and attack indicator on the board.
  • Annihilator units now have an improved targeting reticle to make them much more easily identifiable when they are played.
  • There is now a Tutorial overlay, identifiable by a question mark in the upper left corner, for all aspects of the game. This should help new players understand the menu a little more as well as what the different sections of the gameboard happen to be. It’s turned off by default.
  • Many, many sounds have been added to the game, as well as new music, to improve the overall ambience.
  • There are 2 new cardbacks for sale. One of them is the last of the brewfest girls; the other is the promotion for Android and XL’s launch. We’ve also temporarily put all the Faction crests back on sale as well as the Steam launch cardback. If you missed them, make sure you pick them up soon - this may be one of your last chances to do so!

Fixed

  • Corrected several problems with challenges not being issued correctly.
  • Fixed a problem with the memory very slowly rising over time.
  • Fix for Battle Hungry Brigadier not resetting himself when Disabled.
  • Fix for Shugo-Daiymo not resetting disabled allies.
  • Canadian troops now speak Canadish©.
  • Fixed Volksgrenadiers Last Stand ability.
  • Fixed missing death explosion on Air-dropped Turret.
  • Fixed missing attack sound from Bowmen and Korean Master Archers.

Changed

  • The entire menu screen has been rebuilt, along with several aspects of the front-end which should improve the gameplay experience and add significant polish to the game. The blue-text buttons are gone, rejoice! There’s also a news section for those who would like to check the latest update.
  • The store has been redesigned in a new style to make switching tabs more accessible and generally more easily identified; there is also text explaining the difference between card packs and what card backs are in order to avoid any accidental purchases.
  • The daily reward screen has been improved to make it much more clear what day you are on and what the rewards for each day are.
  • The color of the flags at the end of your battle have been changed. Red is for loss, blue is for victory. This is on the “Victory” or “Defeat” screen.
  • We have redesigned the entire Tutorial system to be more helpful and interesting to a player learning the game. It now comes in seven iterations in order to help a player learn about the different elements that you could encounter throughout gameplay.
  • The starter decks for all factions, to make them much more enjoyable to play with. Existing players have the improved decks as well.
  • The logo has changed, to reflect the two versions of Face Off that now exist. Welcome to Face Off: M!
  • Unlock Empire has been added as a default objective for a new player.

Balance Changes

  • Republic Pathfinders Cost reduced to 3 from 4. Since it only affects Organics, and putting units in a column can be risky, it was overpriced (especially since you’d still need to pay again to move the targeted units to get the most out of it).
  • Republic Eye in the Sky Cost reduced to 7 from 8.
  • Republic M4(105) Sherman Cost reduced to 5 from 6.
  • Republic M4A5 Grizzly Cost reduced to 4 from 5. These three were a bit expensive for what they offered.
  • Alliance Expert Logistics Officer Cost reduced to 4 from 6. His abilities are useful, but not useful enough for the previous price.
  • Empire Shaolin Monk Cost reduced to 3 from 4.
  • Empire Blazebomb Cost reduced to 2 from 3.
  • Empire Night Heron Cost reduced to 5 from 6.
  • Empire Wounded Warriors Cost reduced to 0 from 1. These Empire cards were a bit expensive and under-utilized.
  • Neutral Dug-in Infantry Shelter trait replaced with Shield. Considering you might want to play cards to reset or boost his Attack, the Shelter was likely to be awkward rather than useful. The Shield also better fits his intended role as a blocking unit.

Full Disintegrate

  • Neutral Dug-in Infantry
