Hello! Today's patch notes will include some of the ones from last patch, since we typed that post in an awful pre-PAX hurry.
Disclaimer: 20XX is in alpha. As we develop the game, we may make changes that require us to invalidate or wipe your 20XX save files, Steam Leaderboard info/achievements (these aren't in game yet!), and other save-y stuff like that. Be aware! We anticipate the need to do this for the first time in the April 1, 2015 patch.
TL;DR for today's patch: Lots of fixes and post-PAX related changes. Big Eridu bandaid nerfs. (We'll be changing Eridu a lot in the next few patches, but level 4 Eridu was just too punishing.) New art!
We're also delighted to announce that Clemens Scott (of Broken Rules, a fantastic game studio in Vienna, Austria) will be joining the 20XX crew as Art Director to help us take our visuals to the next level. Be prepared for lots and lots of beautiful changes in the weeks and months to come.
For the next patch or two: Eridu rework, more level variability, moving Skulls into the unlock system, more boss work, proper speedrun mode.
On the horizon (extremely subject to change): online play, safehouse rework, daily challenges (seeded runs with a set number of skulls on, later with Steam Leaderboard integration.
ALSO: As of next patch (4/1), we'll be bumping our Early Access price up to $9.99. The price will continue to rise as we get closer to launch.)
As always, let us know if anything's busted or if we missed some changes.
BIG CHANGES:
- Eridu-4 is now less insanely difficult. Eridu-8 is still super hard, but it's the end of the game. It should be! Most attacks in E-4 do 1 damage (down from 2). Spikes/falling deal 1 damage in E-4 (down from 2). Enemy density in E-4 halved. (This is not our Big Eridu Change. It is just a bandaid fix.)
- Added Armor Capsules (placeholder art). Armor capsules artificially extend your Health bar, and take damage instead of Health. (Any damage you take will reduce your Armor first -- even if you don't have enough to absorb the full hit!)
- Ace's 3-hit Saber combo returns! Each slash has a unique graphic and the third hit deals extra damage.
- Kur, the Gatekeeper now awaits would-be saviors in Eridu-4 (instead of placeholder Enlil).
- Changed the blending style for many of our particles and projectiles. Behold the glowing glory! (We think this counts as a big change.)
SMALL CHANGES:
- Added lots of new pickup effects.
- Resurrection is now a little more forgiving in co-op. Players performing resurrections can't be reduced below 3 HP, and resurrecting players come back with at least 3 HP.
- Soul Nut pickups now randomly award 1-5 Soul Nuts instead of 3.
- Reduced the base chance that "small" enemies drop small nuts by 50% (from 20% to 10%). Their chance to drop large nuts (2%) remains unchanged. (Our first economy rework resulted in a nut glut.)
- The camera in the boss room is now fixed.
- New art for the Boomerang Blade (and it goes a little further than it used to.)
BUG FIXES:
- Fixed some collision spots and bad enemy placements.
- Fixed some slope dashing errors. (This one's been a work in progress. Here's hoping!)
