Hello! Today's 20XX patch gives its Powers some much-needed love in the form of level interactions! Every Power now does something non-combat related. Additionally, we've added some new Options, and done some much needed renderer reworking that should improve performance for folks playing 20XX on potato-based systems. (It should also improve performance for folks playing 20XX on computers.) This patch also reworks Frostor's "targeter" mechanic, replacing it with the deadly Bombhive. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: 20XX is in beta. As we develop the game, we may make changes that require us to invalidate or wipe your 20XX save files, Steam Leaderboard info/achievements, and other save-y stuff like that. Be aware!
We're planning on mucking around with the game's options/save data over the next patch or two, so this is a pretty real possibility.
Note: The closer we get to release, the closer the price will get to our planned Full Release price of $15.
NB: I'm going to be out of town without much internet access until August 6th, so I won't be super available on the forums/by email.
TL;DR for today's patch: Power interactions! Options! Renderer rewrite! Targeter rework!
For the next few patches: Boss iterations! Narrative!
As always, let us know if anything's busted or if we missed a change.
BIG CHANGES:
- Rewrote a section of 20XX's renderer from scratch. Performance should be improved (maybe even greatly!) on most systems.
- Power interactions! Each Power now has a unique property, most of which interact with the level environment. Discover them all! (Hint: The Quint Laser has two.)
- Lots of Options changes:
- Display Modes: 20XX finally adds "Fullscreen (v-sync)" and "Fullscreen (no v-sync)" to its list of Display Modes. They even display in the resolution you actually select!
- 20XX now remembers what character the first player previously used on startup. Ace players rejoice!
- 20XX now remembers the last thing you set "Display Run Time" to.
- There's now a "Restore Defaults" button.
- Added a "Hide Numbers" option. It'll hide damage numbers.
- Added a "Health Display Type" option. Hybrid (default) shows bars until health or energy exceeds 20, at which point it switches to numeric. Bars or Numbers can be permanently turned on as well.
SMALL CHANGES:
- Looping sounds no longer persist while the game is paused.
- Tightened up the end-level bonus chest award effect.
BUG FIXES:
- Hopefully fixed the "phantom enemy" bug.
- Fixed an issue causing a bonus area to spawn right over the boss hallway, resulting in it being blocked by the boss barrier.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Some users may experience stuttering in Borderless Windowed mode - if this is you, please report it!
- The patch number and up
