Hello! Today's 20XX patch adds a bunch of new art, some tutorial tweaks, and entirely new Ark/level end chunk bits. (It's a pretty small patch -- there's a lot we're working on for Skytemple that we can't show off yet!)
Disclaimer: 20XX is in alpha. As we develop the game, we may make changes that require us to invalidate or wipe your 20XX save files, Steam Leaderboard info/achievements, and other save-y stuff like that. Be aware!
Note: The closer we get to release, the closer the price will get to our planned Full Release price of $15.
TL;DR for today's patch: Several new art assets, tutorial/ark polish, new level end pieces, a few new passive upgrades.
For the next patch or two: Skytemple full rework, load time improvements.
As always, let us know if anything's busted or if we missed some changes.
BIG CHANGES:
- 20XX should now load a little bit faster. This is the beginning of a series of loading improvements that *should* culminate in the game loading acceptably fast.
- Added a new item class: familiars. (Name subject to change.) Familiars are passive upgrades that orbit your character, having some beneficial effect. Today's patch introduces two such familiars. More are coming.
- The Ark has been re-overhauled.
- Level end pieces have been overhauled. More readability for the end portals is coming later in this patch.
SMALL CHANGES:
- Lotsa HUD tweaks.
- New Character select art/teleporter art. (To change characters, just use that color's pod -- no more char select menu!)
- Boss-spawned enemies no longer drop anything.
- 20XX now creates a folder in your My Documents folder, "20XX", and puts its files there instead of just littering stray files in your My Documents folder. Sorry about that. The first time you load this patch, 20XX will load your existing file in its existing location, and then save it to the new location and read it there from then on.
- The default size of each health/energy block has been increased.
- Added a UI Scale option that we'll refine later. Making it too big will cause unpleasantness in Multiplayer (for now).
- Lots of menu system changes:
- Pause, Back, and Accept are now rebindable.
- No two keys that you could use at the same time can be mapped to the same button. (Everything but Accept/Back can be used at the same time; so Accept/Back can share keys with other functions, but nothing else can. Accept/Back also can't share a key between themselves. All this was done to prevent a bunch of awful goofy menu stuff where one key could get bound to move up and move down by a user who's fiddling with how broken he can make the menu, resulting in a user who can't use or fix the menu without a separate input device.)
- If you try to map a key that's already taken, it'll switch with whatever had it. (Using default controls, if I try to map Power 1 to A, it'll recognize that Jump currently has A, and swap the default Power 1 key with it, resulting in Power 1 using A, and Jump using Y.
- This is how this should have gone from the start -- folks with nonstandard controllers, please chime in and let us know how it works for you.
BUG FIXES:
- Fixed a bug with the Wrath skull.
- Fixed a few minor netplay glitches. (A few still remain.)
