Hello! Today's 20XX patch adds a bunch of new environment art, adds some big performance improvements, cleans up some Challenge stuff, and fixes up some bugs. It also adds a new Skull!
Disclaimer: 20XX is in beta. As we develop the game, we may make changes that require us to invalidate or wipe your 20XX save files, Steam Leaderboard info/achievements, and other save-y stuff like that. Be aware!
(When we change the Scoring mechanism on our leaderboards, we're likely to wipe the all-time boards for both Score and Time. Beware!)
Note: The closer we get to release, the closer the price will get to our planned Full Release price of $15.
TL;DR for today's patch: Lots of updated visuals. Big renderer improvement for folks reporting stuttering framerates. A new Skull, and a bunch of bug fixes.
For the next patch or two: Lots of enemy changes (visual and mechanics). Starting our big Boss overhaul, aimed at making 20XX's bosses a more important, enjoyable, and memorable part of the game. Item stuff! Leaderboard scoring & polish.
NB: We know there's a crash issue currently in-game, but we need your reports to track it down. The game might be slightly crashier than normal, but we'll hotfix it ASAP when we've figured out the cause.
As always, let us know if anything's busted or if we missed a change!
BIG CHANGES:
- We've made some changes to our renderer that should improve framerate stutter for folks. If you previously had poor 20XX performance, tell us if it's any different!
- Lots of new art:
- Crates of all kinds have new art/levels of destruction as you bust 'em open!
- Frostor's icicle shooters have proper art! The icicle they fire is now also used for Splinterfrost.
- The glorious Earth (or is it?) is now visible in the Ark/Menu!
- Vaculab's falling platforms have updated art!
- Vaculab's falling platforms no longer push players through the world forever -- instead, one falling on your head will break the platform, and you'll take damage.
- Frostor's Teleporters have new art and better readability -- when you get near a teleporter, it and its partner teleporter will open up, giving you a better idea of where you're going!
- New Skull, High Tide: The game's generation algorithm treats you as being four levels ahead of where you really are. Get ready to die a lot.
- Late game Cannon enemies now triple-shoot (but half as fast).
- The Panther enemy (the stealthy dude you always bump into because he's kinda BS) has been removed.
SMALL CHANGES:
- Skytemple Boltpairs now have a thinner collision fixture, making them a little more forgiving.
- Lategame conveyor belt speed now scales more slowly.
- Many enemy attacks that previously scaled with level no longer do.
- Shrunk the size of some explosions & the item pickup effect (so they no longer eat up the screen).
BUG FIXES:
- Fixed a bug causing Weekly timed challenges to display in reverse order.
- Fixed a bug causing items in online co-op to occasionally dupe if both players pick it up at once.
- Fixed a bug causing your Resolution choice to fail to save.
- Fixed a loooong-standing bug allowing you to jump twice without double jump if your second jump was within 100ms of your first.
- Fixed the "Killed By" field occasionally saying wrong things.
- Fixed a visual glitch in Frostor where the Targeter would show up on dead players.
- Fixed a visual glitch where a level chunk could disappear as you got to the far edge of the next room.
- Fixed a crash occurring in very high level Endless runs. (There is a good chance there are other ways high level Endless runs can crash. Play at your own risk!)
- Fixed a bug allowing a player whose online partner has left mid-run to be joined by someone looking for a random partner. (This ended up with one person in game and one person in the lobby and two irritated players.)
KNOWN ISSUES (to be fixed really soon):
- Casual item selection in online co-op behaves a little strangely. (It works, but the menus get a bit spinny.)
- Hitting back on a controller in the Casual/Netplay menus while in an active multiplayer session sometimes causes the menu to instantly reappear.
