The day is finally here – We Need to Go Deeper’s Early Access is now open to the public today on Jules Verne’s birthday!
Thanks to being able to watch all of the WNTGD content on Youtube and Twitch, we had the opportunity to make some adjustments before our big day:
The Launch Update
Health Elixers! – After witnessing so many crews fall to the horrors that lie within undersea caves, we decided to introduce a new helpful loot type that can be found inside treasure chests – the amazing Health Elixer! Drink up during cave expeditions and mend those mandible-induced wounds.
New Rare Enemy Types! – A few mysterious new enemy types have been sprinkled into the various biome spawns – from creatures who sing to toothy mutations, there is now more to discover; and more to fear.
New and Improved AI Dungeon Master! – After a lot of number crunching and some BIG Excel sheets, we have wrangled our AI Dungeon Master to be much fairer and hopefully much more diverse in how it calculates the route to your team’s eventual demise.
New Boss: The Megalodon! – Okay, in fairness, a new placeholder boss, but with a whole new big scary look. The Megalodon has made his arrival to the Prehistoric Biome, and though he won’t be here forever, he’s sure to make his presence known.
Obituary Stats! – No more statting stats! Instead, you can stat some actual stats! Deaths, Revives, Damage output and more is now tracked to your character during playthroughs! Post mortem bragging rights is now finally a thing.
Enemy Knockback! – We gave your torpedoes the extra OOMPH they need to halt incoming enemies in their tracks, and send others flying into each other! With Enemy Knockback, you can now buy yourself time before that tentacle monstrosity can latch onto your sub by blasting it in the face.
A Crab Ton of Bug and Balance Fixes! – Last but not least, we’ve been working our tails off to fix, refine, and tune things constantly as we’ve seen playthroughs reveal new annoyances and exploits. From being able to put torpedoes back where you found them, to fixing and improving the way enemies are networked. We have been doing all we can to put the spit-shine on launch day.
Player of the Month
In addition to all of that, I am also happy to announce our first official Player of the Month! While I can appreciate the fact that technically no one is really a “player” yet since the game just came out, we’re giving the inaugural title to member of the We Need to Go Deeper community –
ᴿᴺᴳ Charlie Brown!
ᴿᴺᴳ Charlie Brown has not only been with the WNTGD community for several years now, but is in fact responsible for starting the first official We Need to Go Deeper community Steam group right after we first got Greenlit on Steam in 2014. Since then, ᴿᴺᴳ Charlie Brown has promoted continued discussion of the game in their discussion boards, starting a semi-regular Q&A with the developers, and has kept the WNTGD torch lit even long after it seemed the game might be dead in the water. For all these reasons, and for just being an all-around nice fella, ᴿᴺᴳ Charlie Brown is our first Player of the Month.
ᴿᴺᴳ Charlie Brown will be receiving 4 free keys to WNTGD to hand out to friends and family for this achievement, and as you will all notice will be recognized on the title screen for this first month.
Our first planned Content Update will be one month from now – March 8th, and we’ll try and push patches and hotfixes along the way as needed. Thanks everybody for your support, and happy diving!
