Welcome to the November Mid-Month Balance Patch! We’ve got a statement about the state of the game, a whole host of card changes and some bug fixes. Let’s just get right into it.
Balance Changes and State of the Game
We are making a good number of balance changes this patch with two major goals:
More cards are fair, buffing weak cards to make them more playable while nerfing some of the outliers that were too good.
Reducing the amount of full heart damage being dealt in the early turns.
Some of these card balance changes should help reduce the amount of early full heart damage. In addition, we are implementing a new behind the scenes matchmaking system that will reduce the frequency of very strong boards in the early game. They will still appear, but at a lower rate. This is something we will be paying very close attention to and adjusting as we get feedback.
With this patch, we think these changes will help move things back towards the desired pace. Note that this is not just a one time change, we will continue to monitor and make adjustments in order for Galaxy to be the maximum amount of fun.
Thank you for playing and lending us your feedback while we make these changes.
Card Changes
Achilles’ High Tops
We are bringing Achilles’ High Tops down a notch so that it is more in line with other faction focused uncommon treasure buffs.
The Candyman
We have decided to rework the wording on The Candyman. The end result will lower The Candyman’s starting buff down from +1/+1 and +0/+0. We hope this allows closer fights against Candyman boards in the first several turns before that initial sweetening is available. This also provides risk for Candyman players when taking early normally low-stat characters.
Caramel
Caramel often found themself in an awkward position when competing for a deck slot against other Epic Candy characters due to them not benefiting from Candy sweetening. We’ve given Caramel this buff to help resolve this.
Gokatoo
Our favorite charging bird was just not quite providing that comeback punch we were hoping for. We hope by adding a second bonus shop, it can help folks turn the corner and unleash its true potential.
Lance A Little
Lance A Little’s quest was… a little too easy to complete. Little Lance has been a key treasure for a number of Captains new and old and we want to make it a little bit harder to find, increasing the risk it takes to hold onto Lance A Little til his quest is complete.
Magical Piping Bag
Magical Piping Bag has sat in a bit of an awkward spot. You needed to complete Catatoullie’s Quest to find it (or gold Catatoullie) and then needed to also complete another quest before it gave you any value. We hope by changing it to recruiting Quest characters, it will improve its dynamic and make Magical Piping Bag more worth pursuing.
Mr. Fox
Mr. Fox has swooped in and stolen many of our Hearts over the last month. The downside is that he’s often stolen many many Lich’s Heart and other treasures as well multiple times. We are making this adjustment to his ability to help increase variety in his gameplay and limit some of the less desirable outcomes for overall gameplay.
Mysterio, the Great and Powerful
Random fun is fun! Unfortunately, Mysterio’s concoctions tended to not be as great and powerful as his name would claim. With this added buff of +25/+25 total to your team, hopefully those who want to embrace variance can now justify it!
Rollo
Rollo has decided that he’d like to be called by his new name. We decided not to ask why and just rolled with it.
Rudolph
‘Tis the season to be jolly, but not many players were including Rudolph in their reindeer games. We’ve decided to add a little something extra to help him make it into more decks.
Sunflare Glider
In the last balance patch, we decided to make a change to things like Constellation Prize so that they would wait til the beginning of your next shop til you got them. While this let them work with many characters, the change in this interaction resulted in Sunflare Glider getting just a bit too greedy with those Dragon’s Claws. We’ve decided to reign it back in and only grant additional claws on Discover.
Sweet Tooth
Sweet Tooth’s ability was adding too much power in the early game contributing to the imbalanced feel of some captains when you face them in turn 3 to 7. This change will help push that advantage back a few turns while also giving her a much stronger late game.
Sword of Valor
Sword of Valor had the inverse problem of Achilles’ High Tops, its understated buff and positional requirements often meant it wouldn’t be picked over other treasures at its rarity. We’ve decided to give it a slight buff to give more incentive for folks to play it.
The Fates
We hope this buff to The Fates attack allows it to trade more often and be more worthwhile to play in custom decklists.
The Sour Patch Kid
With the ability to buff its slot and that ability being able to grow as you sweeten your candy, The Sour Patch Kid was surviving attacks multiple times in a single fight, a bit too often in the early game. And becoming an unstoppable wall that resulted in more full heart damage turns than we would like for an uncommon. We’ve taken a few points away from its Health to let its ability work as intended while also not feeling as punishing to attack into early in games.
Tink’s Torches
Tink’s Torches is super fun when it works, but struggles with being consistent since most supports are so lowly stated. By adding attack to your supports, we hope that this treasure becomes more worthwhile.
Blackbeard
We have been continuing to make efforts to reduce the number of rounds that fail to complete due to too many triggers or unstoppable loops. One of these changes is removing the keyword “Hunt” from Blackbeard to reduce the number of triggers when paired with Jay Sparrow and Hunter’s Horn. We’ve also given him a slight increase to his ability buff so he will more consistently trigger when you first find him.
Ugly Duckling and Seeds of Symmetree
These two cards are being made inactive for now. Ugly Duckling continues to result in full heart damage earlier than we would like and both cards have not reached the level of fun we’d strive for. We will continue to work on these cards and they may return in the future once they’ve had more time to bake.
Treasure Find Change
When you earn a Treasure Find treasure, if you have anything that modifies your treasure selections (Lucky Chest, Boots of Magic Find etc) you will now see 3 total treasures, 2 that match with the modification and the one from the Treasure Find ability.
If you do not take the Treasure Find Treasure during this selection window, you will not see it again if you later earn another treasure from that same Treasure Find character.
