The Map Screen is your window into the world of NORSE, revealing neighbouring villages, the passing of time, and the voices of your people. From here, you create trade networks, bring warriors to your banner, and mark the path of Sudrvik’s future. Let us step into the map and uncover the elements that bring this vibrant world to life.
The Timeline: Steering Sudrvik’s Fate
The timeline is your tool to manage Sudrvik’s progress, displayed on the Map Screen as a dynamic ribbon of time. It tracks vital projects, such as Torsten’s forge upgrades or Geirlaug’s weaving tasks. It also marks upcoming missions with pressing deadlines. Advance the timeline turn by turn to complete tasks and unlock new paths for Sudrvik.
As time flows, hearsay from your villagers provides the beating pulse of Sudrvik. Gertrud, the grumbling fisherwoman, might mutter about dwindling fish stocks, urging you to prioritize her nets or trade for resources to bolster the catch. Holti, the hapless farmer, may share news of his crops, or fret over low grain stores, guiding your focus to his fields. These voices provide critical insight, but new events will arise too, demanding your leadership to keep Sudrvik strong.
Trade: Building Bonds and Resources
As Sudrvik grows and you uncover nearby villages on the Map Screen, the art of trade becomes a cornerstone of your leadership. Trading with neighboring settlements lets you exchange surplus resources for those things you need most, tailoring Sudrvik’s growth to your strategy. Swap excess meat for bog iron to fuel Torsten’s forge, or barter riches for finely-crafted war gear to arm your hirdmen.
Pay close attention to each village’s demands. Some may prize furs, others weapons. Strategic trades can bolster Sudrvik’s stores, unlock new crafting options, or strengthen alliances, ensuring your settlement thrives in a world of scarcity and ambition.
Recruiting: Forging a Warband
Sudrvik’s strength lies in its warriors, and the Map Screen opens the door to recruiting hirdmen from neighboring villages. As you build relations through trade, or complete missions, new recruits – Berserkrs, Rekkr, Drengr, Hirsir, or Bogmathr – become available, each bringing unique skills to your warband. A grizzled Berserkr might join from a battle-hardened clan, or a keen-eyed Bogmathr could arrive from a distant valley, drawn by Sudrvik’s growing renown.
Recruiting requires careful choices: will you spend resources to entice a seasoned warrior, or keep your wealth to bolster your village? Each hirdman you bring to Sudrvik strengthens your forces, ready to wield the gear crafted by your workers and carve your legend in battle.
